A Brief Overview
The Senior IT Software Application Specialist will independently, design improved application workflows, feature designs, and testing protocols. The role will evaluate the latest in QA and testing software and solutions to bring new tools to the team. This role supports core functions of IT systems and services for Stanford Medicine. This role is technically proficient in all areas of supported software, paying attention to design, function, and performance; including log reviews, automated alerts, performance metrics, and overall service metrics. The role will create and manage application specific workflows, such as triaging customer requests, provisioning resources, and tracking workflow progress, constantly evaluating processes to deliver application services more efficiently to end-users. The role will lead the use of Agile best practices, acting as product owner for some applications to represent large groups of end-users for related feature requests. The role will be responsible for presenting data service analytics, issue reports, and application performance and support metrics to leadership.

What you will do
  • LEVEL OF SUPERVISION:
  • Normally receives no instructions on day- to-day work; general instructions on new assignments.
  • Independently chooses and selects which tools to use to complete work.
  • Responsibility may also be assigned for providing training, technical assistance or coordination to less skilled.
  • CUSTOMER SUPPORT & INTERACTION:
  • Provide tier-2 and 3 support of IT system incidents.
  • Provide analytical assistance to junior team members to resolve application incidents, maintenance items, and enhancement requests.
  • Coordinate application support with other informational technology teams.
  • Frequent client interaction.
  • May serve as primary contact for programs, services.
  • Consults with all levels of management on various projects or subjects.
  • Provide training or assistance to junior team members and contractors.
  • Work with and mentor junior staff members to document workflows.
  • Act as technology subject matter expert and clearly communicate technical concepts in business terms between and across the different groups while influencing outcomes.
  • Communicate concepts in elegant, concise, eloquent form to management and to cross-functional departments or teams verbally, in writing, and through pictures or diagrams when appropriate. Take ownership of medium to high complexity issues and act as a liaison between customer and other support staff to facilitate resolution.
  • Troubleshoot issues confronting customers and provide technical solutions.
  • Represent and speak on behalf of the group to wider community at large, at conferences, and forums with peer institutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date project documents for all initiatives that include technical details, user expectations, project goals, work effort, accountability, and deliverables.
  • ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Research issues and use independent analysis and judgement to produce solution options (including alternative solutions when necessary to address system limitations) to complex and/or controversial matters, including pros, cons, risks, benefits, costs, and unintended consequences.
  • Participate in and frequently facilitate/organize team and cross-team meetings and maintain appropriate meeting records.
  • Cultivate shared understanding through facilitation, sketching, workshops, etc.
  • Make sense of complexity through framing of problem and vision, diagrams, and information architecture.
  • Communicate the user experience through personas, stories, journeys, and maps.
  • Iterate toward optimal solutions through experiments and prototypes, ranging from hand-made artifacts to interactive digital simulations in code.
  • Communicate and document design decisions and collaborate closely with other team members in business and development, partnering to resolve implementation issues and ensure quality.

Education Qualifications
  • BA/BS in information technology or business-related field from accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications
  • Five (5) or more years of related work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of internet/web tools, software development, scripting languages, and database design and use.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of common web technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
  • Strong understanding of common database technologies, Standard Query Language (SQL), relational design, normalization, no-SQL databases
  • Very strong logical processing – ability to systematically deduce point of failure in complex system.
  • Ability to use visual thinking, storyboards, sketching, and communication designs to others
  • Meticulous sense of detail and ability to seek out simple solutions to complex design challenges
  • A strong interest in lean and agile user-centered approaches and methodologies
  • Ability to approach a project from multiple angles with a creative-out of the box design approach and deliver on a variety of solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work on multiple overlapping projects
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong shell scripting skills.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $64.63 - $85.65 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
