At eBay, Cloud Security protects one of the world’s largest commerce ecosystems. Our Segmentation platform secures thousands of services, workloads, and databases across multiple Kubernetes clusters, cloud providers, and data centers.

We’re looking for an experienced systems engineer who combines deep expertise in networking, distributed systems, and cloud-native platforms with an AI-first engineering mindset. You’ll build the next generation of intelligent security infrastructure while using AI to accelerate development, automate operations, improve reliability, and solve complex engineering problems at scale.

• Design, build, and operate highly scalable distributed services that enforce network segmentation and security policies across Kubernetes clusters, clouds, and data centers.
• Develop control plane services, Kubernetes controllers, and automation that manage policy lifecycle, workload identity, and secure service-to-service communication.
• Build and integrate with cloud-native networking technologies including Kubernetes, CNI, service mesh, Linux networking, and SDN platforms.
• Deliver production-ready software using modern engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and AI-assisted software development.
• Lead troubleshooting of complex production issues involving distributed systems, Kubernetes, networking, and cloud infrastructure, driving root-cause analysis and long-term improvements.
• Balance security, scalability, reliability, and developer experience while making architecture and design decisions.
• Mentor engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Drive engineering productivity by identifying opportunities to automate workflows and responsibly integrate AI throughout the software development lifecycle.

• 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Go (preferred), Java, Python, or C++.
• Strong foundation in distributed systems, networking, Linux, operating systems, data structures, and algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, controllers/operators (client-go), CRDs, and cloud-native architectures.
• Deep understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancing, network namespaces, iptables/nftables, BGP, VXLAN, and container networking.
• Experience with cloud networking, SDN/CNI technologies (Calico, Cilium, Istio, Envoy, or equivalent).
• Experience building and operating production services with CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and incident management.
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems, Kubernetes, Linux, and networking stacks.
• Experience using AI-powered engineering tools to improve software development, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational efficiency.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

• OPA/Gatekeeper, OpenFGA, SPIFFE/SPIRE, or similar identity and authorization technologies
• OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana
• Event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pub/Sub, SQS)
• Multi-cluster Kubernetes platforms and control planes

You embrace AI as an engineering accelerator—using it to automate repetitive work, improve software quality, strengthen operational excellence, and increase engineering productivity—while applying sound technical judgment and maintaining the highest standards of security and reliability.

You’ll build the platform that secures one of the world’s largest commerce infrastructures while helping define the future of AI-enabled cloud security engineering. You’ll influence technical direction, mentor engineers, solve challenging distributed systems problems, and deliver platforms that protect millions of customers every day.
