Position summary
You will work on cross-functional teams to build scalable systems for our government -- designing, implementing, and delivering services that millions of Americans depend on. You care deeply about working on technology that improves people’s lives, but don’t think technology is always the answer. The Senior Software Engineer/Manager role will be responsible for developing end-to-end systems for one of Nava's major government partners. This initiative aims to modernize and standardize claims processing by consolidating existing, locally maintained software systems into a centralized cloud-based environment. By centralizing infrastructure and data, this project seeks to achieve cost savings, enhance data ownership, and enable more efficient claims routing as part of a broader modernization effort within the payment system. This individual will oversee a team of 8-10 engineers and serve as an individual contributor to the project.
What you'll do
- Manage and mentor a team of 8-10 engineers, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality delivery
- Working with fellow Nava engineers to design, review, and build well-crafted software
- Collaborate with government partners and other contractors to architect, implement, and deploy new systems and improvements to existing systems
- Working in an agile manner to efficiently ship new features that meet user needs
- Creating tools and processes to automate our development, testing, and production workflows
- Writing and reviewing technical documentation, performing code reviews
- Taking part in hiring activities (e.g., submitting referrals, conducting interviews, and attending interview debriefs), as needed
Required skills
- Open to Fullstack engineers
- At least 7 years of experience working in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment, preferably designing and building medium to large-scale on AWS
- At least 3 years of experience managing and mentoring engineers
- At least 3 years of experience working with AWS Experience with Java
- Tenacity to dive into problems and iterate on working code
- Highly resourceful, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to think strategically around trade-offs and short-term vs. long-term benefits
- An adaptive, empathetic, collaborative, and positive mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical and otherwise
Desired skills
- Experience building systems for healthcare
- Experience with messaging using JMS API and relational database access using JDBC API would be preferable
- Experience with Spring Boot, Redis Cache ,and Postgres (Spring Data API use)
