The Senior Scrum Master supports two teams within the Technology and Data organizations that play a critical role in building future of work capabilities and the learning platform that enables enterprise transformation. The Scrum Master ensures Scrum teams adhere to Scrum principles and best practices, as applicable. Coaches the teams and removes impediments, escalating when appropriate. Partners with the Product Owner, Learning and Talent leaders, and learning platform production constituents to form execution and delivery plans, manage progress, and facilitate release planning.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT, or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Job Duties
Supports and facilitates two Scrum Teams, a Learning & Development team and a Learning Platform Development team, by fostering Agile values and practices.
Ensures team adherence to Agile principles. Provides coaching to the Scrum Team(s) on how to execute the Scrum framework. Acts as a role model for servant leadership.
Organizes and facilitates ceremonies, identifies improvement opportunities to optimize velocity and quality while mitigating risk. Tracks and communicates overall team progress, providing visibility to stakeholders (Retrospectives, Sprint Planning, etc.).
Serves as a filter to remove impediments to progress as identified by the teams. Protects the teams from outside influences to ensure the teams remain focused on priorities.
Partners with the Product Owner to ensure backlog items are prioritized based on business value and ready for the teams.
Facilitates teams to improve collaboration, creativity, and overall efficiency.
Arranges daily stand-up meetings, facilitates and schedules meetings, demos, and decision-making processes to ensure effective inspection and adaptation.
No direct managerial accountability.
Matrixed reporting, provides coaching and feedback to ensure team success.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience working with and supporting Agile team structures, including Scrum teams.
Experience working with Learning and Development teams or initiatives is a plus.
Experience implementing best practices and standards related to Agile product and solution development.
Agile mindset with the ability to embody core Agile values of openness, courage, respect, focus, and commitment, and apply Agile principles, practices, and methodologies to achieve team success.
Demonstrated ability to take a hands-on approach and actively contribute to overall team success and achievement of goals.
Execution and delivery experience, including initiating, planning, executing, and managing delivery of complex initiatives, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, manage dependencies, and align outcomes with business objectives and timelines.
Experience working with Agile tools such as Rally or Jira is a plus.
Strong collaboration skills with experience working in cross-functional, multi-team environments.
Continuous improvement mindset with a demonstrated commitment to learning, sharing knowledge, and encouraging team development.
Experience coaching and mentoring team members and Scrum Masters, supporting the adoption of Agile best practices and effective problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with emerging technologies, including the use of AI-enabled tools to support team productivity and delivery, is a plus.
Scrum Master and SAFe certifications are a plus
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
