We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Scrum Master to lead multiple agile teams focused on developing and enhancing insurance products and services for our Middle and Large Business sector, in a Product & Underwriting Value Stream. This role involves fostering a culture of continuous improvement, facilitating agile ceremonies, and removing impediments to ensure successful delivery of high-quality solutions.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate all the Agile/SCRUM ceremonies - DSU's, Sprint planning, Sprint reviews, Retrospective/Sprint demos.
- Partners with the Product Owner, IT Delivery Lead and Business leadership to form execution delivery plans and manage progress and facilitates release planning.
- Organizes and facilitates ceremonies, identifies improvement opportunities to optimize velocity and quality while mitigating risk.
- Reports to Release Train Engineer and works closely with the RTE for overall delivery of Agile release train PI objectives.
- Partners with the Product Owner to ensure the backlog items are prioritized based on business value and ready for the team
- Tracks and communicates the overall team progress providing visibility to stakeholders.
- Serves as a filter to remove impediments to progress as identified by the team.
- Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
- Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
- Motivate the team to be disciplined and accountable for ensuring the Agile tools(Rally/JIRA) hygiene is maintained.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience working and managing Agile team structures (Scrum/Kanban).
- Strong knowledge and experience working with Agile reports/Metrics.
- Experience working with PO in backlog grooming/refinements.
- Experience in participating in Program increment (PI Planning).
- Experience in Estimation and Story pointing.
- Experience in Team Planning- Capacity/velocity.
- Ability to analyze and think quickly and to resolve conflict.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and mentoring skills and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across teams.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Self-motivation and ability to stay focused in the middle of distraction.
Preferred Skills:
- Generative AI Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, and integration of generative AI into software engineering workflows.
- Continuous AI Learning: Commitment to staying current with advancements in generative AI, including LLM capabilities, prompt engineering, and emerging best practices.
- Technical familiarity with Guidewire or Policy Center
- Property & Casualty insurance industry experience.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM) required. SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) or other scaled agile certifications (e.g., SAFe Agilist, LeSS)

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
