Why us, why now?

Senior Specialist, Science Policy is responsible for supporting the science policy activities and initiatives of the Scientific Affairs cluster and contribute to the work and deliverables of the Science Policy and Regulatory team, which focuses on federal agency activity. Working closely with senior leadership in Scientific Affairs, this position develops key written deliverables intended for internal and external audiences.

How will you make an impact?

Policy analysis

  • Serve as the AAMC’s content expert for specific designated areas related to biomedical research funding and infrastructure, including technology transfer and patents, grant funding mechanisms, and research partnerships.

  • Lead the organization in understanding the impact of developments, announcements, and communications from federal agencies in designated science policy portfolio areas.

  • Attend meetings and convenings of federal agencies related to these topics and provide summaries for constituents and the Science Policy and Regulatory Team

  • Act as the primary Scientific Affairs liaison to the Ad Hoc group on medical research

Policy writing and communication 

  • Draft communications for constituents, including policy issue briefs and newsletter articles, summaries of proposed or final regulations, and updates for the AAMC medical research website and science policy hub.

  • Contribute to AAMC comment letters to federal agencies

Scientific Affairs cluster contributions

  • Contribute to the work of the Science Policy and Regulatory Team and the broader Scientific Affairs cluster by serving on internal (AAMC) committees, collaborating on team initiatives, preparing materials for presentations, and serving as the cluster representative for AAMC activities, as assigned.

What you'll bring to the role
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (Master’s preferred)

  • 5 - 7 years of related work experience

  • Minimum of 4 years with direct involvement in science policy.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability to create timely and accurate synopses of technical information and/or meetings.

  • Meticulous attention to detail across projects, communications, and responsibilities.

  • Commitment to incorporating feedback and instruction into future work products.

  • Organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, collaborate with others, prioritize work and issues appropriately, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with constituents and policymakers through professional and effective communication

 

Remote Work Eligibility

This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

Compensation Grade Range

$86,955.00-$102,300.00

Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions.  One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
