Job Title: Sr. Safety Lead - DC
Reports to: Regional Safety Manager
Job Description:
The Sr. Safety Lead – DC plays a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment within the Distribution Center. This position supports the development of a strong safety culture by coaching, training, and guiding all team members. The Sr. Safety Lead - DC also assists in executing corporate safety initiatives as directed by the Regional Safety Manager.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
- Under the guidance of the Regional Safety Manager, plan, direct, and implement safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment in compliance with all federal, state, county, and local safety regulations.
- Partner with the Regional Safety Manager to establish safety goals, support onboarding of new team members, lead quarterly safety training initiatives, and assist in the execution of the site's Safety Action Plan.
- Facilitate safety training sessions and coach team members on daily safe work practices.
- Conduct Safety New Hire Orientations in collaboration with HR and Operations.
- Assist in facilitating monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
- Organize post-incident review meetings with leadership as needed.
- Ensure all regulatory and compliance audits/inspections meet BJ’s standards.
- Maintain working knowledge of current OSHA regulations to audit, research, and address safety concerns and respond to team member inquiries.
- Communicate positively and proactively with Operations, peers, and leadership to promote a culture of safety.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and leadership training opportunities.
- Lead by example, consistently modeling a "Safety First" mindset.
- Promote accountability by ensuring adherence to all safety policies and procedures across the team.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn various areas of the distribution center and adjust work schedules as needed to meet business demands (including early/late/off shifts and other departments).
- Keep management informed of changes to safety regulations and ensure compliance with all applicable requirements.
- Work independently with minimal supervision; must be self-motivated and detail oriented.
- Perform other duties as assigned. This list reflects primary responsibilities but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be required based on departmental or business needs.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Job Conditions
- Frequently lift objects up to 30 pounds; may occasionally lift heavier or awkward items over 30 pounds with assistance.
- Perform repetitive computer-related tasks such as data entry and typing.
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, and lift for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours daily).
- Frequently walk on hard surfaces within various operational areas.
- Work is primarily conducted indoors in a comfortable environment, with occasional exposure to fluctuating temperatures, including cold environments as low as -20°F.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays, as required by business needs. This includes working extended periods during business-critical needs.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to steel-toed footwear, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and insulated clothing.
