Sr Relationship Advisor
The Sr Relationship Advisor manages fiduciary and agency client relationships, serving as the fiduciary specialist responsible for overall client satisfaction. This role partners with internal teams and utilizes Northern Trust (NT) resources to deliver high-quality service, resolve issues, communicate client needs, and develop advisory relationships. The Trust Advisor also supports fiduciary accounts not directly assigned to a primary advisor.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of wealth management clients by developing a thorough understanding of client needs, goals, and governing documents. Apply fiduciary expertise, including relevant trust, tax, estate planning, financial planning, and investment principles.
Provide holistic, goals-based advice and proactively guide clients on products, services, regulatory changes, and appropriate actions. Translate complex concepts into clear, client-friendly communication.
Deliver responsive, high-quality client service, maintaining proactive communication and strong relationship management with professionalism, diplomacy, and sound judgment.
Leverage NT resources and cross-functional partnerships to enhance client relationships, identify opportunities, and provide advice-driven solutions.
Apply fiduciary standards, policies, and procedures to ensure prudent risk management. Identify and escalate fiduciary risks as appropriate.
Develop new business by cultivating relationships with referral sources and centers of influence. Represent NT in community and professional organizations.
Mentor and support less experienced partners and serve as a fiduciary resource for Relationship Advisors.
Travel to meet with clients as needed based on servicing requirements and business opportunities.
Pursue ongoing professional development to strengthen fiduciary and advisory expertise.
Exercise sound judgment in decision-making based on analysis of multiple information sources.
Eligible to serve as Lead Relationship Manager in Private Client Advisory and Private Client Services.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of fiduciary principles, financial products, and applicable laws and regulations
Technical expertise in investments, tax, legal, and operational areas
Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information clearly and build consensus
Demonstrated skills in relationship management, problem solving, negotiation, and business development
Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
7–10 years of experience in fiduciary services, including personal trust, estate administration, or related fields
Preferred
Progress toward or attainment of professional designations such as CFP, CTFA, JD, MBA, or similar
