The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering complex, cross-functional projects that support key business and technology initiatives across the organization. This role is primarily focused on business projects within the financial services industry, with an emphasis on personal consumer lending, and may also support technology projects involving customized applications that enable retail branch operations across multiple states. The Senior Project Manager oversees all phases of the project lifecycle, including scope definition, planning, resource coordination, timeline management, risk mitigation, stakeholder communication, and execution. This position requires strong critical thinking, sound business judgment, and the ability to translate business needs into effective project outcomes. The Senior Project Manager prepares and delivers project updates to senior leadership and helps drive strategic initiatives that improve operational efficiency, customer experience, and business performance, while maintaining a strong awareness of and adherence to audit, compliance, and internal control requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead assigned business and technology projects from initiation through implementation, including project planning, resource allocation, governance, and steering committee presentations as needed.
- Deliver projects on time, within scope, and within budget while aligning outcomes to business objectives and operational priorities.
- Partner with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, requirements, and success measures, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical feasibility.
- Manage initiatives that support personal consumer lending offered digitally and through retail branches across multiple states.
- Schedule and facilitate business requirements sessions to gather, validate, and document business and functional requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, milestones, dependencies, and timelines, and track progress against established deliverables.
- Coordinate cross-functional resources to ensure appropriate staffing, resource availability, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Measure project performance using appropriate tools, metrics, and reporting methods to provide visibility into status, risks, and outcomes.
- Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and costs through established governance, change control, and validation processes.
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies to minimize operational disruption and support successful delivery.
- Provide timely status reporting and escalate risks, issues, and decision points to leadership and stakeholders as appropriate.
- Create and maintain complete project documentation in accordance with internal standards, audit requirements, and SOX compliance needs.
- Maintain a strong awareness of audit and compliance controls and ensure project activities, documentation, approvals, and deliverables align with applicable regulatory, policy, and internal control requirements.
- Communicate effectively with business partners, technical teams, vendors, and leadership to support collaboration, decision-making, and execution.
- Develop and execute project communication plans to ensure stakeholders receive clear, timely, and relevant updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Drive resolution of project scope, risk, issue, and dependency items in partnership with project teams and key stakeholders.
- Ensure project deliverables meet defined quality standards, business requirements, and readiness expectations prior to implementation.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- 7+ years of project management experience within business operations, information technology, or a related environment, including successful delivery of large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
- Previous experience managing projects within the consumer finance, banking, or broader financial services industry, preferably supporting personal consumer lending initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects through the full project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and implementation.
- Experience gathering, documenting, and translating business requirements into actionable project plans and deliverables.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with business partners, technical teams, vendors, and leadership.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and drive practical solutions.
- Proven ability to prioritize work, manage multiple concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and adapt effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Jira, and other project management or collaboration tools.
- Ability to quickly learn complex business processes, technical concepts, and regulatory, audit, and operational requirements relevant to financial services and branch-supported environments.
- Working knowledge of audit, compliance, and internal control requirements, with the ability to operate effectively within regulated environments and incorporate control considerations into project delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or comparable Agile certification, with demonstrated experience serving in a Scrum leadership role.
- Experience leading technology projects involving customized applications, systems implementations, or platforms that support retail branch operations across multiple states.
- Change management experience supporting large-scale, cross-functional business transformation or enterprise technology initiatives.
- Experience supporting audit remediation, regulatory, compliance, or internal control initiatives within financial services or other highly regulated environments.
