The Product Support Engineer will advise of product design best practices encompassing regulatory code requirements for technical compliance, as well as introducing awareness and access to applicable industry standards, with concentrated focus on electrical power, electronics, and digital/wireless communication devices.  Duties include evaluation, interpretation, and advisement of codes and standards to cross-functional roles for regulations, domestic and international, as well as applicable industry standards.  Provide technical product support and configuration change management review during the post-launch product life cycle phase.  This includes review and approval of formal engineering change control and product markings.  The role participates and coordinates participation in relevant technical industry governing and/or standards bodies, proposing/advocating for regulatory and industry standards in the interests of the business.

The incumbent will possess strong electrical/electronics integration knowledge with the ability to effectively communicate across various technical and commercial functions, offering technical leadership in this discipline.  Comprehensive technical assessments and problem solving along with rational decision-making will be necessary for success, while emphasizing timely support to meet internal and external stakeholder expectations. Technical product support will be provided during new product development and for the post-launch product life cycle.  Identifying, proposing, and implementing opportunities as appropriate with a continuous improvement mind-set will drive functional growth.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review product designs/concepts and advise New Product Development (NPD) product engineering teams of applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards 
  • Review and approval of Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Artwork Change Requests (ACR) for appropriate product markings
  • Provide technical support for product engineering, sales, marketing, and customer inquires for post-launch and in-service products
  • Monitoring and providing alert of regulatory code changes (domestic and international) and participation on relevant technical industry committees
  • Monitoring and management of workload demand from incoming requests, establishing prioritization with internal stakeholders

Requirements: 

  • BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with systems integration of structural/mechanical, electrical power, electronics, and embedded software for consumer devices
  • Minimum 7 years experience in related fields of electrical/electronic systems design/integration, with preferred experience in qualification of embedded software
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory codes, including:
    • US FCC 47 CFR 15, Radio Frequency Devices
    • US FDA 21 CFR Subchapter J Part 1010, Performance Standards for Electronic Products; General
    • US FDA Laser Notice No. 56
    • US DOE 10 CFR, Energy Conservation
    • California Title 20 Appliance Efficiency Regulations
    • Canadian ISED/ICES, General Requirements for Compliance of Interference Causing Equipment
    • European RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU
  • Product certification marking and listing services, including UL listing, CE mark, ETL mark
  • Scan and provide interpretation of domestic and international regulatory codes and industry standards 
  • Focus on continuous improvement for adaptive learning and process efficiency growth
  • Travel may vary up to 20%.
