The Hot Wheels Remote Control (HW RC) PDE Team
Through dedicated efforts and strong collaboration with both internal and external partners over the past five years, the HW RC product line has evolved into one of the fastest-growing segments within the Hot Wheels brand and across Mattel.
The HW RC Product Development Engineering (PDE) team leads Remote Control projects for key brands, including Hot Wheels, Barbie, and other Portfolio categories. Working closely with partners, the team transforms product concepts into well-defined, market-ready products. This involves comprehensive project management, addressing technical challenges throughout development and production, and ensuring excellence in Quality, Cost, and Schedule execution.
The Opportunity:
Senior PDE, reports to Manager, PDE
With an increasing number of SKUs and growing product complexity year over year, the HW RC team is seeking experienced Senior Product Development Engineers (PDEs).
This role will lead project development from initial concept through to production, collaborating closely with internal and external partners to deliver innovative engineering solutions and maintain schedules. The position is critical to achieving Global Brand Team (GBT) objectives and driving category growth.
What Your Impact Will Be:
- Lead product development: Design and translate product concepts into defined products, managing projects and resolving technical issues throughout the process.
- Optimize cost: Achieve competitive product costs by evaluating design options, tooling strategies, and manufacturing alternatives.
- Coordinate communication: Gather, evaluate, and distribute information effectively to all relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure process efficiency: Communicate proactively to expedite and implement development and production processes.
- Manage schedules: Create and maintain development timelines to meet project milestones.
- Vendor oversight: Monitor and support external partners and vendors to ensure timely achievement of development goals.
- Quality and compliance: Plan and control assigned products to meet requirements for Quality, Capacity, Cost, and Schedule.
- Production support: Provide technical support during production start-up at manufacturing partners.
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in consumer goods fields. Rich experiences in Toys Industry are preferable.
- Technical Expertise:
- Extensive knowledge of high-complexity motorized mechanisms, modeling, tooling, programming, and battery configurations.
- Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD and Pro/ENGINEER (Pro-E).
- Skills:
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, global environment.
- Quality & Compliance: “Quality First” mindset with familiarity in international safety standards.
- Project Management: Strong sense of scheduling and cost control.
- Language: Good command of English, both written and spoken. Mandarin Chinese skills are highly desirable.
