Position Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Process Engineer is accountable for driving process improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives related to product development, capacity expansion, new process implementation, and quality enhancement. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including the development and optimization of production methods, machine setups, equipment commissioning and upgrades, tooling, and design improvements for the manufacturing of fiber cable products. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, recommending cost-reduction opportunities, performing engineering computations, and collecting and analyzing technical data. The position also manages capital projects, prepares high-level reports, summaries, and analyses, and executes other specialized tasks as required to support operational excellence and strategic goals.
Responsibilities
Monitor daily manufacturing processes to detect trends and out-of-control conditions, ensuring timely corrective actions based on urgency and business impact.
Collect, analyze, and report process data to strengthen control, improve capability, and support data-driven decisions.
Lead and support capital projects that increase plant capacity, enable new product introductions, and upgrade facilities for long-term competitiveness.
Drive material innovation and evaluate alternative materials that maintain quality standards while reducing costs.
Manage complex problem-solving efforts for quick, effective resolution of production issues.
Apply continuous improvement methodologies (DOE, Cycle Time Reduction, JIT, Lean Six Sigma, 6S, TPM, structured problem-solving) to eliminate waste and boost efficiency.
Conduct process and product audits to ensure compliance with quality management systems.
Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment issues, process drifts, and anomalies to prevent reoccurrence.
Create and maintain Machine Instructions (MI) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all plant functions, ensuring clarity and compliance.
Develop training programs and communicate updates internally to maintain workforce proficiency.
Implement process changes and trials for new product development in collaboration with R&D.
Facilitate transfer of new methods/lines to production for smooth and timely startup of revised products.
Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on a weekly and monthly basis to confirm alignment with quality and productivity targets.
Prepare monthly engineering and project status reports for management review.
Partner with Engineering Design, Process Units, and customers to ensure efficient production processes that meet customer requirements and division standards.
Knowledge and skill requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred.)
5+ years of experience in a wire and cable manufacturing environment.
Proven track record in leading and training junior engineers.
Skilled at collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Strong critical thinking and exceptional analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
Thrives in fast-paced environments while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
Hands-on experience with ERP systems, design tools, and analytical/statistical software (e.g., Minitab).
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Experienced in summarizing projects and presenting to senior leadership and large international audiences.
Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
