Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer – Architect Planner (26-261) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively see the battle develop, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats across all ranges and phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that networks, integrates, and synchronizes autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to optimize performance. C2BMC is an integral part of all system ground and flight tests that verify and exercise the capabilities of current and future missile defense systems.
The candidate will be a member of the C2BMC Planner Team on the Regional Applications Agile Release Train (ART). Responsibilities will include defining and overseeing the implementation of the software architecture for a Java-based missile defense command-and-control planner system, ensuring alignment with the C2BMC program's architectural design tenets. This includes providing direct technical support to the Chief Engineer, Chief Architect, and Planner Client team, and coordinating across engineering disciplines (e.g., Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Integration & Test, Operations & Sustainment).
Essential Functions:
Perform trade studies and analyses for current and future C2BMC development activities
Maintain the software architecture artifacts for the CFPT
Oversee the development and implementation of the CFPT software design
Determine the ramifications and impacts of proposed architectural changes to the software baselines
Analyze system performance by quantifying performance, identifying bottlenecks, and measuring throughput
Support briefings, presentations, and demonstrations for the customer
Support the analysis, design, and implementation of cyber requirements in the software
Working with other program architects to implement enterprise architecture with intent and guidance
Installation and configuration of Linux and Windows hardware platforms from the OS up to the C2BMC-developed applications
Documentation and verification of all installation and configuration steps, to be delivered to the customer
Develop installation scripts to automate system installation while adhering to security standards and procedures
Develop test plans and procedures for software integration testing, be responsible for integration and execution, detailed data analysis, and preparation of software test reports
Coordinate execution of SW integration tests across multiple environments to verify system operation
Work with software developers as needed to help diagnose and identify the root cause of problems encountered during software integration
Submit problem reports for errors found
Responsible for implementing all Information Assurance directives across the systems, including scans, security requirements, and logging requirements
Task and coordinate daily integration activities with other local team members
Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance
Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
Must have software engineering and architecture experience with large-scale software systems
Experience with the Java programming language and with developing software throughout the full software development lifecycle
Understand modern software architecture paradigms, such as event-driven architecture and service-oriented architecture
Effective communicator who can bridge engineering disciplines, customer and program leadership, and individual contributors to deliver solutions
Candidate must be able to write clear, concise instructions for system installation and configuration
Strong communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with software developers, system administrators, and analysis and test engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret/SCI security clearance at the time of application are highly preferred
Experience developing software architecture and design for large-scale distributed software systems that support scalability, extensibility, maintainability, reliability, etc.
Experience mentoring and educating other engineers
Creative problem solver who finds solutions within technical and programmatic constraints
Experience conducting trade studies and analysis across software engineering disciplines
Experience with logical and physical modeling
Hands-on experience with DoD integration processes, Agile and DevOps methodologies, and automated test tools
Experience with Helm, Ingress, and other container orchestration tools is a plus
Knowledge/expertise in the C2BMC concept of operations and user interface
Experience writing installation manuals
Experience integrating complex applications on Windows and Unix/Linux platforms
Experience with VMware systems administration and installation
Experience with Kubernetes or relevant orchestration technologies
Use of Git Version Control System

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
