Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Reliability Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
You will be assigned work in the Product Support organization performing System Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Engineering Analysis. You will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and verifying subsystem R&M performance requirements for all design changes and new development efforts to ensure that R&M program requirements are achieved. The primary responsibility of the position will be reliability, maintainability, and testability.
Essential Functions:
- Perform R&M allocations and predictions.
- Develop Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) analysis.
- Perform Built In Test (BIT) testability analysis.
- Develop mission reliability analysis.
- Support the development of teams in the investigation of issues.
- Familiarity with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Experience with Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
- Experience with maintainability demonstrations.
- Experience with Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Reliability Growth Testing (RGT), and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS).
- Liaison with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and suppliers for the R&M of assigned subsystems.
The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers. The engineer may develop, coordinate and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs. Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability. Compile and analyze performance reports and process control statistics; investigate and analyze relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Analyze preliminary plans and develop reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives. May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks. As necessary, propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability. May determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing, and specify minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline and 8 years of engineering experience; OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 6 years of engineering experience.
- Experience in Reliability and Maintainability discipline.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering Degree.
- Active, In scope US Government Secret clearance.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years engineering experience, OR Master's in STEM and 6 years engineering experience.
- Experience in Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) engineering discipline.
