About the Role
Sr. Principal Engineer ASE assumes technical leadership over the definition (RFx phase) and development of the audio systems for all acoustics topics for the assigned OEM or multiple OEMs (1-2 major OEMs and support new OEMs – primarily Toyota/Lexus). In this position, you will be directly responsible for the audio systems' sound quality, customer satisfaction, and market performance. You will act as the main point of contact for your assigned OEMs and internally at Harman, for all inquiries related to acoustic engineering of the audio system for your programs. You will work closely with the local customer ASE team, provide them with training and guidance, and other engineering functions, sales, and program management. You will actively support predevelopment activities, system definition, development, and sound tuning processes according to Harman’s guidelines and work instructions.
What You Will Do
- Lead RFI and RFQ pursuits in acoustic systems domain for several major OEMs globally.
- Execute sound tuning on the most critical Audio Systems for your assigned OEMs, oversee and direct sound tuning signatures executed by your customer team.
- Ensure high level of acoustical expertise within your OEM team of engineers by effective training, coaching, directing, and supporting the technical tasks.
- Monitor project planning and team assignments, provide feedback to the regional ASE Director to secure the accurate staffing for projects within your OEM group within 1-3 years outlook.
- Act as an expert authority within product development for all acoustic topics.
- Support innovation, concepts maturation, platforms, features, and tools by effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders, with a focus on your OEM group.
- Provide functional expertise to Product Management on Technology Roadmaps in the context of your OEM group.
- Develop and document worldwide acoustic systems tools and best practices.
- Support business units with acoustic systems strategy creation and acquisition of new customers.
- Represent HARMAN on acoustics related international scientific conventions and conferences through publishing papers and active participation.
What You Need
- Master’s Degree in Acoustics or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in audio industry / automotive / product development.
- Advanced knowledge in transducer design, DSP, audio amplifiers and psychoacoustics.
- Experience in research and development demonstrated through a proven track record of publications in relevant top-tier journals/conferences, through patents or patent applications or new and innovative products.
- Expert in definition and parametrization of complex automotive products through best practices and management of internal and external requirements.
- Excellent presentation skills with an ability to explain complex technical topics for a variety of audience with a different expertise level.
What Makes You Eligible
- Be willing to travel 50% or more (depending on the business needs) internationally and domestically.
- Be willing to work in an office in Nagoya/Tokyo, offices in Japan.
- Driver’s license.
- Successfully complete a background investigation/Aptitude Test as a condition of employment.
