The Sr Principal Engineer – Controls will work within the Connected Solutions engineering group to design, implement and test cloud and mobile applications to enable enhanced levels of machine connectivity and control. The team member will play a crucial role of identifying design solutions and defining feature requirements for machine connectivity solutions. Activities can include the design, validation, and maintenance of both hardware and software components for mobile construction vehicle control systems and related IoT systems This role is within the Global Product Development team.
YOUR IMPACT:
- Identify and implement new connectivity features (including data visualizations, mobile app features, cloud-based machine control, etc.)
- Analyze user-requirements to create functional tools and/or add useful features to existing tools.
- Design and integrate IoT Systems into mobile construction vehicle control/embedded systems and CAN based data collection.
- Define and document control system designs, requirements, test plans and results.
- Evaluate embedded software, hardware, and electrical components for quality, reliability, manufacturability, and compatibility of control system designs.
- Design complex test fixtures for validation of the integration of hardware and software.
- Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to find solutions to problems.
- Draft, review, and release requirements specification documents, including defining the requirements and verification baseline.
- Support requirements, implementation, and verification team projects and coordinate regularly with key partners to maintain program objectives.
- Leads the creation of user need requirements and decomposition of those requirements to System and Subsystem requirements.
- Review and approve System and Subsystem requirement documents to ensure user needs are properly decomposed and intent of the user needs is met.
- Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions.
- Establish system architecture and perform system trades and analysis, flow down the architecture and into requirements and interfaces, and support verification planning.
- Operate mobile construction vehicles to understand, design, and test use cases for control systems.
- Plan and direct the technical aspects of the most highly complex research and development programs.
- Coordinate system development and execution within a team.
- Prepare technical solution design proposals and presentations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical Engineering or related field with eight (8) or more years of related experience.
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Agile feature development.
- Understanding of common IoT architectures and tools.
- Proficient in data analysis and visualization.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with automotive or heavy-duty equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exposure to embedded applications on microcontrollers and real-time operating systems.
- Experience working with CAN and the J1939 protocol.
- Ability to thrive in a startup like culture, excels in ambiguous situations, and embraces technical challenges.
- Experience in Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, Go or similar programming language.
- Experience using cloud technologies like AWS, Docker, or Azure.
- Experience in SQL (e.g., SQL Server) and NoSQL databases (e.g., ADx)
- Experience applying Agile design methodology and tools (e.g. Jira)

Pay Range:
$101,100.00 - $166,700.00
The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
