As a Sr/ Principal Application Engineer, you will drive the development of innovative reference designs and application boards that showcase Nexperia's portfolio, with a strong focus on Switched-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS).
You will play a key role in bridging product development and customer requirements by transforming device capabilities into practical, production-ready hardware solutions.

This position is critical to enabling customer adoption, accelerating time-to-market, and delivering high-quality technical solutions through hands-on validation, technical expertise, and customer engagement.
 

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and validate reference designs and application boards utilizing Nexperia's discrete, analog, and power IC solutions.

  • Create schematics, select components, and collaborate on PCB layout to optimize performance, efficiency, thermal management, reliability, and cost.

  • Perform electrical, thermal, and system-level validation, including efficiency analysis, switching characterization, transient response testing, thermal profiling, and EMI/EMC pre-compliance evaluation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to hardware designs and applications.

  • Support customers and sales teams through design-in activities, technical consultations, and application-focused problem solving.

  • Represent Nexperia at customer meetings, workshops, conferences, and industry exhibitions.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including application notes, design guides, simulation models, user manuals, and web-based application content.

  • Collaborate with Marketing, R&D, and System Architects to translate customer insights into future product opportunities and product roadmap requirements.

  • Build deep expertise in power electronics applications and contribute to the continuous improvement of Nexperia's solutions.
     

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); Master's degree (MSEE) preferred.

  • 5–8 years of experience in application engineering, hardware design, or power electronics.

  • Proven experience developing reference designs, evaluation boards, or power electronics hardware solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of SMPS topologies, including buck, boost, flyback, LLC, multilevel converters, paralleling systems, and high/low voltage architectures.

  • Experience working with wide-bandgap technologies and power conversion systems.

  • Solid understanding of switching behavior, power losses, and efficiency optimization.

  • Hands-on experience with PCB design and layout tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.

  • Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools including MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, PLECS, thermal analysis, and EMC compliance methodologies.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and system-level problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global teams.

  • Customer-focused mindset with strong ownership and accountability.

  • Excellent presentation, communication, and technical writing skills.

  • Business-fluent English, both written and spoken.

  • Experience in datacenter power applications is a strong advantage.
