Job Description:

The Senior Network Strategy Consultant supports the Network Strategy Team by shaping the long‑term direction of Southwest’s flight network through strategic analysis, market evaluation, and network investment recommendations. They’ll Lead complex initiatives that assess future domestic and international opportunities, influence aircraft allocation decisions, and support long‑range planning for airports, facilities, and operational resources. They’ll represent Southwest with airport, industry, and community stakeholders while presenting strategic recommendations and business cases to Senior Leaders and Executives. The Senior Network Strategy Consultant leverages deep airline industry knowledge, strong critical thinking skills, and influential leadership to identify emerging risks and opportunities, mentor Team Members, and guide strategic decisions that support Southwest’s long‑term growth.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert regarding Southwest's network in order to create network strategies influencing the direction of the Southwest network 1.5-15 years in the future
  • Partner in the development of strategic and tactical domestic and international commercial plans to enhance the Southwest network
  • Maintain the Network Portfolio and recommends changes to Senior Leadership
  • Collaborate with various cross-functional teams in completing the 3 year and long-term Network Plans (Work Plan)
  • Lead domestic and international new city evaluations
  • Lead in the performance of high level forecasting for new cities as well as overall large scale network changes
  • Develop and maintain knowledge base for Southwest's domestic and international markets, including but not limited to past performance trends, future outlook, and industry capacity and demand changes
  • Initiate, lead, and complete value added Team projects in accurate/timely manner with ability to meet needs of all levels in the organization
  • Manage external relationships with airport and tourism authorities for offline domestic and international cities
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to collect, organize, visualize and assimilate data including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem
  • Ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Expert level experience, expansive and far-reaching knowledge in:
    • Analyzing airline performance in a strategic/commercial planning/ operational planning organization (e.g. Revenue Management, Network Planning, Ops Planning Data Science, Strategic Planning, Financial Planning & Analysis, etc.)
    • Understanding commercial and operational performance metrics and targets within the aviation or transportation industry
    • Network design strategies, location and staffing constraints , and how to translate operational and commercial goals into long term network strategies

  • Preferred: Experience with Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, or mobility data

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits  

  • Competitive market salary from $132,200 per year to $146,900 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
