Basic Function
The Sr. Network Engineer designs and delivers secure, scalable network solutions for global enterprise environments. This role requires expertise in routing, switching, and SDWAN technologies—especially Cisco platforms and VeloCloud—while applying industry standards and business requirements. Responsibilities include solution design, gap analysis, project planning, and vendor evaluation. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure operational excellence. Basic automation skills are leveraged to streamline deployments and improve efficiency. Candidates should be passionate about networking, adaptable to fast-paced agile environments, and committed to mentoring and collaboration.
Essential Functions
Research, design, test, pilot, release, and support LAN/WAN/Cloud network and security solutions, including Cisco Routers, Switches, Cisco Catalyst SDWAN, VeloCloud SDWAN, Remote Access VPN, firewalls, and cloud security gateways.
Develop scalable network designs, standards, and processes for enterprise environments; provide technical leadership in project planning, cost analysis, and vendor evaluation.
Act as subject matter expert for troubleshooting complex network issues across routing, switching, SDWAN, and security technologies.
Apply basic automation skills (e.g., Python scripting, Ansible) to streamline configuration management and repetitive tasks.
Document network designs, configurations, and operational procedures; create and maintain installation, support, and design guides.
Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to ensure successful implementation, lifecycle maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Participate actively in Agile project teams to deliver new and enhanced products.
Communicate effectively with vendors, partners, clients, and cross-functional teams; provide clear technical guidance and documentation.
Stay current with emerging networking technologies, practices, and standards.
Participate in on-call rotation and respond to network issues as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
BS degree in Computer Science, Electronics/Communication, or equivalent experience, with at least 8 years in enterprise-scale network engineering.
Professional certifications such as CCNP or equivalent; additional certifications (CISSP, GIAC, MCSE) are a plus.
Extensive hands-on experience with Cisco Routers, Switches, Cisco Catalyst SDWAN, and VeloCloud SDWAN.
Advanced knowledge of networking protocols including ARP, BGP/EIGRP/OSPF, DHCP, DMVPN, DNS, GRE, HSRP, HTTP(S), ICMP, IP, IPSEC/IKE, IP SLA, NAT, PKI, RADIUS, SAML, (S)FTP, SNMP, SSH, STP, TCP/UDP, TACACS+, TFTP, TLS/SSL, VRRP.
Strong understanding of capacity planning, QoS, and optimal path selection.
Familiarity with network automation concepts and tools (Python, Ansible).
Proven ability to lead critical projects and deliver high-quality results on time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with vendors, partners, clients, and cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and commitment to high standards of ethics and integrity.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of thriving in team discussions and fast-paced environments.
Preferred Skills
Experience designing, configuring, and deploying Cisco Routers and Switches within enterprise environments; familiarity with service provider concepts, best practices, and vendor management.
Hands-on experience with Cisco Smart Licensing.
Exposure to SDWAN technologies beyond Cisco, such as VeloCloud and Aruba, as well as Meraki products.
Knowledge of regex and scripting for automation tasks (e.g., Python, Shell, PowerShell); familiarity with Infrastructure as Code principles.
Experience integrating IDP’s (Entra ID, DUO, OKTA) with networking products.
Exposure to cloud networking solutions (AWS, Azure).
Working knowledge of Windows, Linux, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) to effectively interact with system administrators and troubleshoot network-related dependencies.
