OverviewThe Senior Mechanical Engineer leads the development of innovative, manufacturable product solutions from concept through production and lifecycle support. This role applies advanced mechanical engineering expertise and systems thinking to solve complex technical challenges, drive product quality and performance, and support business objectives.Working across cross-functional teams, the engineer leads design, analysis, testing, verification, and manufacturing integration activities while collaborating with engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, marketing, and service teams. The role also provides technical leadership through mentoring, influencing technical direction, driving continuous improvement, and advancing product development capabilities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver innovative mechanical products and systems from concept through production and lifecycle support.
- Create and validate designs through CAD modeling, engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Identify technical risks and drive effective solutions to ensure successful project execution and product performance.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, to deliver successful product outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers, designers, and technicians while promoting engineering best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, operational efficiency, cost optimization, and engineering effectiveness.
- Contribute to product innovation, technology development, and the advancement of engineering tools, processes, and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, product development processes, and systems-level design integration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD systems, engineering documentation practices, and product lifecycle management tools.
- Experience applying DFSS methods, including DOE and statistical data analysis, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, root cause analysis, and verification methodologies.
- Proven hands-on product development experience, including prototyping, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design refinement of mechanical systems and components.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences through verbal, written, and visual communication.
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills with cross-functional environments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, technical risks, schedules, and project deliverables effectively.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, quality systems, and product validation practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering excellence.
- Proven ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and make sound engineering decisions under conditions of uncertainty, risk, and competing priorities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required
- Typically requires 5+ years of progressive experience and/or education in mechanical engineering, product development, or related technical disciplines.
- Experience developing products within regulated, manufacturing-intensive, or customer-focused industries preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects and influencing technical direction across cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
