PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $173,500.00-$211,900.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $135,100.00 - $250,600.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:

The Sr. Manager, Technology – API Platform is responsible for leading the execution of BECU’s API strategy by delivering enterprise APIs and platform capabilities that securely expose business services for use across all channels, including mobile, web, internal applications, and external partners. The Sr. Manager, Technology is also responsible for developing and maintaining technology roadmaps, managing engineering and delivery teams, and implementing agile practices. Additionally, this role will identify innovative solutions, manage projects, and lead a high-performing team, while contributing to financial budgeting, participating in governance processes, and supporting strategic planning.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, SC, NC, CA or VA. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.  For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Own Delivery & Execution for API Platform Outcomes: Own delivery and execution for API platform outcomes, ensuring alignment to leadership direction—including priorities, and architectural guardrails.
  • Align Technology with Business Goals: Use your deep understanding of business processes to shape technology strategies, helping create business cases, cost/benefit analyses, and roadmaps that support organizational objectives.
  •  Identify Innovative Solutions: Scan the market for modern tools and capabilities, leading RFPs, project charters, and business cases that bring innovation to life.
  • Develop and Coach Teams: Mentor, guide, and elevate your team through ongoing coaching, performance conversations, and skill building opportunities that cultivate a high-performing engineering ‑culture. Building opportunities that cultivate a high-performing engineering culture.
  • Build High Impact Teams: Foster a culture grounded in quality, agility, and continuous learning—encouraging your team to explore emerging technologies and modern software development practices.
  • Manage Technical Delivery: Lead engineering initiatives, oversee technical requirements, and support continuous delivery teams to ensure strong execution across products and platforms, including scalable, secure APIs built in C#/.NET on Azure (GraphQL for reads and REST for writes).
  • Champion Agile Practices: Collaborate with cross-functional partners to embed agile principles, streamline processes, and align product and technology lifecycle outcomes.
  • Drive Engineering Best Practices: Advance quality across the software lifecycle—from requirements to code standards to CI/CD automation— including consistency in API contracts, versioning, error handling, performance, and backward compatibility.
  • Align Roadmaps and Outcomes: Partner with business units to connect technology capabilities with strategic, operational, and tactical priorities.
  • Engage in Governance & Planning: Participate in business and tech governance forums, lending your expertise to planning cycles and initiative reviews.
  • Support Annual Planning: Contribute to operational plans and ensure new or evolving initiatives have full financial planning, including infrastructure considerations.
  • Oversee Vendor Partnerships: Review SOWs and contracts while guiding external partners to deliver value across assigned projects and workstream.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
  • Typically requires 3 years of people leader experience. Experience leading technology teams.
  • Typically requires 5 years of information technology experience with demonstrated expertise in application design and API driven or integration focused architectures.
  • Previous work experience building technology platforms and teams preferably in environments leveraging modern APIs, microservices, cloud native services, or integration frameworks.
  • Domain experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and/or Infrastructure/Operations and/or financial products experience (i.e. Credit Card, Mortgage, Auto Loan, Deposits, etc.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with API gateways and API management platforms (e.g., Azure API Management), including authentication, authorization, routing, throttling, and policy-based controls.
  •  Demonstrated expertise in API design, design patterns, development, and lifecycle management, including REST, GraphQL, or event-driven architectures, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and developer usability.
  • Experience with API security standards (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, scopes/claims, token flows, and common authorization patterns).
  • Experience operating APIs in cloud environments (preferably Azure), including observability practices such as Application Insights or Open Telemetry.
  • Technology fundamentals, design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and product management to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
  • Delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Working experience of software engineering best practices including coding standards, change management, manage incidents, CI/CD, Automated testing, cloud native development build processes, testing, and operations.
