Job Description:
What You'll Do

  • As a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering you will be primarily responsible for leading the direction and technical development of application engineering staff within Finance Corporate Services.
  • This individual will be a servant leader to two critical product teams responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of Discover's Accounting & General Leader functions and our suite of enterprise planning applications. Most of these applications reside on the Oracle Financials Cloud platform (ERP & EPM), allowing this individual to lead and develop teams operating on the latest Cloud technology. In addition, this individual will oversee the maintenance and retirement of several legacy applications.
  • As part of this individual's responsibilities, they will lead the product teams in defining the technology design and building the competencies for engineers. This includes partnering closely with the Finance stakeholders and product owners to define the target state technology design and ensuring continuous delivery of enhancements aligned to the objectives of the product teams. The role requires a hands-on Servant Leader and technical Subject Matter Expert, accountable for effectively skilling, tooling and allocating engineering members to best support the needs of the Finance Corporate Services product teams.
  • This individual will coach and support the team of engineers to continuously improve their processes and practices, enforce appropriate quality and user experiences, drive out waste, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous innovation and learning.
  • This individual will also become a critical member of the application development area's leadership team helping shape the technical vision for the department. This includes ensuring the engineering talent is aligned to that technical vision and demonstrating transparency that the engineering talent can meet the department's objectives. This also includes ensuring all regulatory/compliance, control, and audit findings for a set of applications are remediated as required.
  • Responsible for the application ownership, development delivery, and support for value streams. Manages a team including hiring, directing, mentoring, and assigning work.
  • Develops and coaches teams to be able to identify, manage, and escalate risk, and effectively manages risk within the teams you oversee.


How You'll Do It

  • Manages software ownership and development from initial concept through continuous improvement.
  • Coaches and mentors team members. Supports individuals to achieve their individual development goals. Utilizes Agile and Lean practices to identify an solve systemic issues.
  • Utilizes tools to support data driven decision making. Identifies and removes blockers to enable the team to meet business goals.
  • Consults with management in the analysis of short and long range business requirements and recommends innovations.


Qualifications You'll Need
The Basics

  • Bachelors in Information Technology or related field.
  • 8+ years in Application Development experience
  • 2+ years in People Management

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $125,500.00 to $211,500.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
