General Purpose of the Job
The Senior Manager, Data Product is responsible for leading a team of data professionals to develop and maintain data products that
Are high quality, reusable, scalable, and curated data assets that serve high impact use cases
Codify corporate facts using standardized business rules to create a shared understanding, clarity, and alignment across the Village
This role will be accountable for the effective, efficient, and agile delivery of data products — from technical requirements, to development (on Nexus/Google EDP to start and on future platforms/tools TBD), testing, delivery, warranty, enhancements and maintenance. This role will also be accountable for identifying dependencies and coordinating with the relevant teams (governance, silver layer/source data teams, and other teams as needed). The Senior Manager will, at a minimum, lead a core full stack development team but may also, as needed, support additional scrum teams based on demand and funding availability.
The Senior Manager aligns technical delivery with business objectives, drives operational excellence through process improvement, and fosters a culture of innovation and accountability. This leader acts as a key partner to business stakeholders, managing expectations, risks, and resources to deliver high-quality solutions that support DaVita’s mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Delivery Leadership
Oversee the execution of the technical delivery portfolio, ensuring all projects and products are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Define and drive delivery strategies that align with organizational goals and long-term technology roadmaps.
Partner with Product and leaders to prioritize initiatives and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Product and Domain Owner Management & Communication
Serve as the primary point of escalation for delivery issues and risks.
Communicate project status, health, and metrics to senior leadership and partners via regular business reviews.
Manage complex relationships, negotiating priorities and managing expectations across cross-functional groups.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Manage and mentor a high-performing team
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, psychological safety, and accountability.
Conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and drive career development planning for direct reports.
Oversee resource allocation and capacity planning to ensure teams are staffed effectively to meet demand.
Operational Excellence & Process Improvement
Define and champion a data product lifecycle (SDLC) framework. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics (e.g., velocity, cycle time, defect rates) to measure and improve team performance.
Identify systemic bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
Financial & Vendor Management
Participate in annual budgeting and forecasting processes for the delivery organization.
Manage vendor relationships and oversee the work of external contractors or partners as needed.
Education and Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field required.
Experience:
Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive experience in IT, software development, or technical program management.
Minimum of 3-5+ years in leadership roles in data and/or reporting related development efforts
Proven track record of delivering complex technical products in a large enterprise environment.
Specialized Experience, Training, Certifications, or Qualifications
Required:
Strong understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall).
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Experience with project management and delivery tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet).
Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
Preferred:
Experience in the Healthcare industry.
Certifications: PMP, CSM, SAFe Agilist, or ITIL.
Work and Time Requirements
Travel: Up to 10-15% as needed.
Nights/Weekends: Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support critical releases or operational issues
Work Environment: Level III – Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers or printers, light traffic).
Physical Demands: Ability to lift minimum of 5 lbs to a max of 50 lbs unassisted and able to stand, sit, stoop, walk, stretch, reach, and use full range of body motions. Manual dexterity as required for specific equipment and ability to use computer keyboard and peripherals.
