Senior Manager, Cloud Infrastructure Engineering (Private Cloud & Kubernetes Environment)

Role Summary

The eBay Cloud team powers the foundational cloud infrastructure that supports thousands of eBay applications. As one of the largest private cloud platforms in the industry, we operate and run hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments, comprising millions of compute instances.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Manager, Cloud Infrastructure Engineering to lead the planning, development, and operations of our private cloud and Kubernetes platforms. This leader will lead teams handling cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, automation, reliability, and AI-enhanced operational excellence.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in cloud-native infrastructure along with a consistent track record to build inclusive, high-performing engineering organizations. This role is focused on enabling scalable platforms, improving developer productivity, and accelerating innovation through automation and data-informed engineering practices.

You will work alongside engineering, security, networking, and product departments to develop resilient, secure, and highly automated infrastructure platforms that support business-critical applications at scale.

What You’ll Do

Lead and Develop Engineering Teams

  • Build, guide, and support high-performing cloud infrastructure and platform engineering teams.
  • Champion an inclusive engineering culture grounded in trust, accountability, learning, and innovation.
  • Coach engineers and managers through career growth, skill development, and leadership opportunities.
  • Create clear goals, operating rhythms, and development plans that help teams succeed.
  • Encourage healthy collaboration across distributed and cross-functional teams.

Drive Cloud Platform Strategy
  • Lead the planning, building, and running of enterprise private cloud infrastructure.
  • Develop scalable, secure, and reliable cloud platform capabilities aligned to long-term business needs.
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to improve platform performance and resilience.
Lead Kubernetes and Platform Engineering
  • Be responsible for the engineering and lifecycle management of internal Kubernetes platforms.
  • Drive standardization and operational excellence across multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
  • Improve platform reliability, observability, scalability, and upgrade automation.
  • Expand self-service infrastructure and internal developer platform capabilities.

Advance Automation and Reliability Engineering
  • Champion automation-first approaches across infrastructure and operations workflows.
  • Improve provisioning, deployment, scaling, recovery, and compliance automation.
  • Reduce repetitive operational work through intelligent tooling and process improvements.
  • Strengthen Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, operational readiness, and incident response processes.
  • Use metrics and operational insights to continuously improve reliability and efficiency.
Enable Productivity Improved by Smart Technology
  • Find opportunities to use AI and generative AI technologies to improve engineering productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Support AI-assisted observability, incident analysis, and infrastructure operations.
  • Encourage adoption of AI-enabled workflows, copilots, and automation tools across engineering teams.
  • Partner with technical leaders to responsibly integrate AI capabilities into platform engineering practices.
  • Help teams apply automation and AI to increase impact, decrease repetitive work, and speed up delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • Over 10 years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering.
  • Over 5 years of experience managing engineering teams and championing technical talent.
  • Experience managing large-scale private cloud or cloud-native infrastructure environments.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes platform engineering and distributed systems.
  • Experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or comparable technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, Linux systems, networking, storage, and observability platforms.
  • Experience developing automation frameworks and continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical programs and operational initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure ecosystems.
  • Experience applying AI or machine learning technologies to engineering operations or developer productivity.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud, GPU infrastructure, or high-performance computing environments.
  • Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of FinOps, capacity planning, or infrastructure optimization practices.
  • Contributions to open-source cloud-native technologies or Kubernetes ecosystem projects.
