Position Overview:
Vertiv is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide expert-level guidance in the design, deployment, and optimization of mechanical systems for data centers. The SME will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of HVAC, cooling, and other mechanical infrastructure, aligning with Vertiv’s mission to deliver mission-critical infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Systems Design & Optimization:
- Lead the design of HVAC, cooling, and ventilation systems for data center facilities, ensuring alignment with Vertiv standards and industry best practices.
- Develop comprehensive mechanical schematics, equipment layouts, and airflow diagrams using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Integrate Vertiv products such as Liebert cooling systems into scalable data center designs.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, structural, and network engineers, to ensure cohesive project delivery.
- Performance Analysis & Optimization:
- Conduct thermal load calculations, airflow analysis, and capacity assessments to optimize mechanical system performance.
- Implement data-driven strategies to enhance cooling efficiency and minimize energy consumption.
- Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all mechanical systems comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant standards, as well as Vertiv’s internal guidelines.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and commissioning tests to verify system performance and compliance.
- Risk Management & Contingency Planning:
- Identify potential mechanical system risks, including thermal overload, airflow inefficiencies, and equipment failures.
- Develop contingency plans and emergency response protocols to mitigate risks and maintain uptime.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, as-built drawings, and maintenance manuals.
- Generate technical reports and recommendations for system upgrades, retrofits, and optimization projects.
- Training & Mentorship:
- Provide training to engineering teams on Vertiv’s mechanical systems, focusing on best practices for design, operation, and maintenance.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline; Master’s preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in mechanical design and operations within data center environments.
- In-depth knowledge of Vertiv cooling products (e.g., Liebert CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems) and their integration in data centers.
- Proficiency in HVAC design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP).
- Relevant certifications such as PE, CDCP, or Vertiv product-specific training (e.g., Liebert cooling systems) are highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on optimizing thermal performance and energy efficiency.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex mechanical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
