We are seeking a Sr. Cybersecurity Engineer - Controls Assurance with strong Mainframe expertise to join our dynamic IT Controls Assurance team. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to lead compliance assessments across Mainframe environments, evaluating IT controls to ensure alignment with internal policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
You will play a critical role in safeguarding GM's legacy infrastructure, ensuring security, resilience, and audit readiness across Mainframe platforms and associated systems. Your ability to interpret and assess complex technical information across RACF, Z/OS, and Mainframe security tools will be essential in this position.
This role demands strong collaboration across IT teams globally, and the ability to work independently while demonstrating a deep understanding of Mainframe security administration, control evaluation, and risk assessment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute compliance assessments with a primary focus on Mainframe systems and environments.


  • Conduct risk-based evaluations of Mainframe security controls including RACF configurations, system access, job scheduling (IWS), and batch processing tools.


  • Analyze system architecture and technical data across Mainframe OS (Z/OS), Mainframe Applications, and Mainframe Middleware tools.


  • Utilize your deep knowledge of Mainframe auditing methodologies to assess design and operational effectiveness of critical controls.


  • Collaborate with control owners and technical teams to interpret RACF output, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend improvements to Mainframe control frameworks.


  • Support continuous improvement of assessment processes by incorporating mainframe best practices and automation opportunities.


  • Work closely with internal audit, IT security, and compliance teams to report on Mainframe-related risk and assurance metrics.


Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in Mainframe Administration (required)


  • BSc in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent technical experience will be considered in lieu of degree Expertise in RACF (IBM Suite), Z/OS, and Mainframe Batch Scheduling tools (e.g. IWS)


  • Experience auditing Mainframe Applications, security configurations, and infrastructure.


  • Knowledge of Mainframe Online and Database Products: CICS, IMS, TSO, and Db2.


  • Strong working knowledge of Mainframe file transfer systems, e.g., IIB, Datastage.


  • Familiarity with Mainframe DevOps pipeline authentication systems (LDAP), and general infrastructure components like firewalls and network monitoring systems.
