Sr. Instructional Designer (Remote)The Sr. Instructional Designer is responsible for leading high-visibility learning projects - creating, updating and delivering training material for both online and classroom learning. Additional responsibilities include conceptualizing, planning, designing, and producing a wide range of specialized multimedia and programs for our Learning, Enablement & Development department.Essential Functions
Course Development
- With the assistance of the training team, plan and develop instructor-led and/or multimedia learning courses for Niagara’s internal team members. These instructional projects will primarily focus on themes of leadership, culture, and org-wide transformation initiatives.
- Using the department’s development calendar, work to meet project deadlines. Report project progress in a way consistent with department project management protocol.
- Troubleshoot problems with multimedia content (instructions) being developed by less technical members of the Training and Development team.
Media Development
- Provides project strategy and assists with the development of the video and audio components necessary for creation of learning assets. This may include the use of image, audio, or video editing software to refine raw media to meet the standards necessary for use in instructional media.
- Administers and maintains various media repositories where media is stored for the department’s internal use.
- Identifies opportunities for multimedia technologies to enhance web and classroom based instruction.
- Produces and edits video content as required.
Instructional Design/LMS/Training and Development
- Drives the curriculum design for compelling training programs, learning activities including instructor led, online, and alternative. This person will assist in the responsibilities of the team for developing and writing content, both traditional and e-learning training and materials.
- Maintains an understanding of Niagara’s LMS system. This includes knowing the basic features, limitations, and functional requirements of the system and its courses.
- Serves as the multimedia technology trainer for staff on techniques and best practices for various media and graphics software.
- Collaborates with stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure accurate content.
- Evaluates the results of training programs and modified future programs to better meet the needs of the business.
- Well versed in various forms of multimedia to best determine the appropriate format for the target audience.
- Develop and deliver training materials on company process and products and technologies to ensure that team members develop, maintain and increase their own technical and or process knowledge.
- Meets commitments, works independently, handles change, and stays focused under pressure. Listens to others and values opinions that are different from their own, assists team members to meet goals.
- Stay abreast on new and innovative learning methodology and theories.
Writing/Editing/Document Control
- Ensures the accuracy of generated documents, and that they are formatted in accordance with company/department formatting standards.
- Occasionally travels to other Niagara facilities to collaborate with curriculum designers, trainers, internal customers and Subject Matter Experts to develop documentation and support related activities.
- Some web content responsibilities, portal management through SharePoint.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervision of Company Systems, Equipment and Business Protocols.
- Provide leadership to adjacent work teams in the event their Manager is unavailable
