Responsibilities

About the Role

Own the infrastructure that keeps everything running, and clear the path for everyone who depends on it.

As a Sr. Infrastructure Engineer at Hummingbird, you’ll independently lead complex infrastructure, integration, and automation work across our technology environment. You’ll spend most of your day designing and maintaining our Azure infrastructure, building integrations and automation, and serving as the go-to escalation point when technical issues rise above the service desk. You’ll translate ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions, keep our systems secure and stable, and help teammates grow along the way.

This role is a natural fit for a well-rounded engineer who has worked across many technologies rather than a single narrow lane, who takes initiative without waiting for direction, and who genuinely enjoys partnering with people across the business.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead implementation of complex integrations, automation workflows, and system connections, including work without clear precedent.

  • Own and organize Hummingbird’s Azure infrastructure, improving cost efficiency, consistency, and alignment to best practices.

  • Serve as the escalation point for the service desk on technical issues, including Microsoft application support such as SharePoint.

  • Build integrations that automate manual work, such as provisioning roles and licenses across systems.

  • Support our citizen development program by building and maintaining the infrastructure behind internally built apps.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex, cross-system issues by tracing root causes across interconnected platforms.

  • Strengthen system integrity and security within your scope, including access controls and validation approaches.

  • Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate troubleshooting, documentation, and day-to-day engineering work.

  • Maintain clear documentation of system logic, configurations, integrations, and dependencies.

  • Mentor engineers and raise the bar on standards for version control, testing, change management, and documentation.

The Details
  • Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Work Location: Remote. You must work from a location within the United States with consistent Internet service.

  • Work Type: Full-time

  • Compensation: Expected range is $120,800 to $157,000. New hires usually start between $120,800 and $145,000, depending on experience and internal equity.

  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off; 401(k); parental leave; career development support; and more

Required & Desired Skills

What You’ll Bring
  • 4 to 5+ years of independent delivery in information systems, cybersecurity, IT, computer science, or a related technical discipline, including work in moderately ambiguous contexts.

  • Advanced working knowledge of Azure infrastructure, cloud environments, and enterprise systems administration.

  • Experience leading complex, cross-system implementation and integration work from requirements through production, and resolving issues that span multiple platforms.

  • Solid understanding of security concepts, including access controls, authentication, IAM, and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience designing automation that reduces manual effort and strengthens reliability.

  • Comfort using AI-assisted tools as a core part of how you work, and openness to adopting new ones.

  • A self-directed approach with strong initiative; you frame problems and move work forward without waiting for direction.

  • Clear communication and a collaborative, people-first style, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical partners alike.

Nice to Have
  • Telephony experience, ideally with Genesys, or the ability to build and support telephony integrations.

  • Background at a managed service provider or another environment that exposed you to a broad range of technologies, from infrastructure and networking to application support.

  • Experience with scripting languages, API development, or infrastructure-as-code tooling.

What Helps You Shine
  • Please note that we use both your resume and your written and oral communication throughout the hiring process to understand your fit for this role.

  • Thoughtful, clear responses help us see your attention to detail, your professionalism, and your ability to communicate with care, all skills that are essential for success on our team.

A Note on Authentic Interviews

We believe the best hiring conversations are real ones. Notes are welcome, and jotting things down during the call is completely fine. What we ask is that you don’t use AI tools or similar assistance to generate your responses in real time. We’re genuinely trying to get to know you: how you think, how you communicate, and what you’ve experienced. That connection matters to us, and it’s hard to find when answers are scripted rather than interactive.

We’re a team that makes healthcare more human. We’d love to meet the person behind your application.

Expectations for Focus & Presence
  • To support patients and each other, this role requires your full attention during scheduled work hours. Our Outside Employment Policy doesn’t allow overlapping work or “job stacking,” so any outside work must happen fully outside your Hummingbird schedule.

  • We’re a camera-ready team, and you’ll need to be on camera during training and when needed during the workday after training ends.

  • We value connection, teamwork, and being present, which is what keeps our patients safe and our team supported. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll feel at home here. If you’re hoping to hold another job during the same hours, this job won’t be the best match.

Growth at Hummingbird

This role is a key part of our technology team. You’ll take on increasingly complex infrastructure, integration, and automation challenges over time, deepen your expertise across our Azure environment, and help shape how the team works as it grows. You’ll receive coaching and feedback along the way. At Hummingbird, we believe good jobs should lead somewhere, and that starts here.
