Position Summary 

EPX is looking for a Senior HR Generalist to support our organization through all stages of the employee lifecycle. The primary focus of this role will be to enhance and support EPX’s success in all things HR, benefits, and recruitment with a strong focus on compliance. The right candidate for this role will have exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to represent EPX as the face of the company when interacting with prospective candidates and other third parties.

They will embody through actions strong people support values, particularly integrity. They will be privy to a wide range of confidential and sensitive personal information, so they must have unimpeachable trustworthiness and discretion. They will be a strong point of contact for HR-related inquiries and will naturally foster empathetic relationships with coworkers to ensure that every voice has a receptive ear ready and willing to listen.They will be able to organize and manage complex projects and demonstrate a strong sense of judgment and ownership to solve problems. 

Location 

EPX is an onsite company, needing this person to be in the office up to 5 days a week. There is a possibility of this role becoming hybrid, but will be determined by business need and only with hiring manager approval.  Preference will be given to candidates in the Temecula Valley area, with our office located at 43223 Business Park Dr, Temecula, CA 92590. This role will require minimal travel – we expect you to travel 3-5 times a year to Washington, DC and / or other US cities for organized team and / or company gatherings to collaborate with other members of the team / company.

Key Responsibilities 

Human Resources

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Accurately process all aspects of payroll, including consolidating timesheet information, creating certified payroll reports, and reconciliations as required. 
  • You will coordinate payroll submission in partnership with our finance team.
  • Responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with all prevailing wage laws and local hire program regulations enacted by County, State and Federal wage and hour labor laws
  • Effectively administer all benefits programs including but not limited to 401(k), health and welfare plans, COBRA, wellness programs and voluntary benefits.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding plan eligibility, life event changes and wellness events.
  • Orient new hires and educate current employees on benefits.
  • Inform employees of changes and developments related to benefits including eligibility, coverage, and provisions.

Recruiting

  • Own and manage full-cycle recruiting, including sourcing candidates, coordinating interviews, reviewing candidate materials and feedback, working with hiring managers, and closing candidates.
  • Conduct pre-screens and evaluate candidates using structured rubrics, checking personal qualifications to required traits.
  • Identify staffing needs proactively and develop pipelines and time-to-fill goals that meet business needs.
  • Assess, improve, and manage a standardized recruitment system for the company, building on what exists and utilizing your expertise to build a repeatable process used within all areas of the company.
  • Build and maintain a strategic and robust talent pipeline, including engaging social media, partnering with search firms and staffing agencies, and identifying and building out new sources of talent. Drive automation and integration of HR processes through software and / or process improvements.
  • Conduct compensation analysis in coordination with the VP of Talent & Culture.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment law.

Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • 5+ years experience working in HR, recruiting, or related field with a Bachelor’s degree
  • OR 7+ years work experience directly related to the requirements of the job
  • Experience with full-cycle recruiting and sourcing; with a strong understanding of Applicant Tracking and HRIS Systems
  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA regulations 
  • Knowledge and experience of 401K Administration 
  • Experience effectively organizing and managing multiple priorities and projects at one time, with a demonstrated ability to switch between contexts quickly and efficiently
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to strategically adapt written and verbal communication for a variety of internal and external audiences 
  • Experience collaborating in person and remotely using software- and cloud-based information management tools, such as Google Workplace and Slack
  • Previous experience handling confidential employee information
  • Strong, demonstrated organizational skills within a team
  • Proven ability to demonstrate empathy, emotional intelligence, and good judgment in difficult or sensitive situations and with incomplete information

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a fast-paced and / or high-growth startup
  • Experience working with or within the energy industry, such as Utilities, Energy Services, and / or relevant trade contracting industries
  • Experience with Slack, Google Workplace, Greenhouse, Paycor, ADP and other HRIS platforms

  • Competitive compensation within a range of $100,000 - $120,000/year base salary and stock based compensation awards
