Sr GIS Data Engineer (temp contract)

As a GIS Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the next generation of spatial data processing at HERE. You will work with a variety of spatial and non-spatial data sources including Repetitive Sources, APIs, and RSD Sensor Data to design, build, and operate advanced data integration pipelines. Acting as a technical project owner, you’ll help drive the evolution of HERE’s Unified Map Maintenance and AI-driven source processing ecosystem.

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, and optimize data engineering pipelines that transform and integrate diverse data sources into HERE’s map databases and related products.

• Leverage modern technologies such as Python, SQL, FME, ArcGIS, QGIS, and cloud-based APIs, as well as emerging frameworks for data automation, confidence scoring, and semantic integration.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Analytics and AI Engineering to develop components of the Unified Content Store, enabling intelligent cross-referencing and confidence indexing of spatial data.

• Advance the evolution toward Agentic AI, developing data flows that allow systems to reason over spatial content, detect change, and trigger automated updates.

• Contribute to Gen3 initiatives such as Smart Edge Detections, integrating sensor-based sign detections from external vendors via secure APIs.

• Continuously improve processes through automation, re-engineering, and innovation to ensure scalability, high data quality, and readiness for AI-native workflows.

• Monitor and troubleshoot data conversions, bulk updates, and system-level database issues, driving corrective actions and long-term performance improvements.

You are passionate about combining GIS expertise, data engineering, and AI automation to redefine how spatial data is collected, interpreted, and transformed into living, intelligent maps.

You are a motivated and curious GIS Data Engineer with a passion for data, automation, and emerging technologies. You combine strong analytical thinking with hands-on technical skills to design and operate scalable spatial data solutions in a cloud environment.

Your background includes:

• A degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, or a related technical field

• Proven experience in data analytics and data-driven problem solving

• 5+ years of experience working with modern GIS and cloud technologies (web services, big data, distributed systems)

• Strong skills in data transformation and integration across multiple databases (Oracle, File Geodatabase, PostgreSQL/PostGIS)

• Proficiency in Python (other programming languages are a plus)

• Solid experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, or FME for spatial data processing

• Familiarity with GitLab and collaborative development workflows

• Experience in AWS architecture and application deployment, with growing knowledge of services such as Lambda, S3, SNS, and SQS

• Interest in AI-driven automation and contributing to intelligent, self-learning GIS systems
