Senior Full Stack Engineer, Platform Services

College Board  Technology, InfoSec & Infrastructure

Location: This is a remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office). All CB employees are required to occasionally travel to meet in person for business purposes.

Type: This is a full-time position

About the Team

The Platform Services Team helps monitor and assure the health, security, and performance of the systems within a shared platform. The team owns a key piece of the platform shell, a shared foundation that domain teams across the organization build on to deliver a unified user experience. Team is responsible for designing, building, and deploying into the shell, integrating data and functionality from multiple domains into a single, cohesive entry point for users. It's a high-visibility role at the intersection of architecture, cross-domain collaboration, and platform reliability.

About the Opportunity

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will play a strong technical role in the design, development, and reliability of a cloud-native, AWS-based platform that aggregates data and services from multiple domains into a cohesive, performant, and role-aware user experience for teachers, students, and administrators.

You bring strong full-stack engineering experience, with deep hands-on skills across React front-end development and AWS-based backend/API architecture. You are comfortable owning solutions end-to-end — from API design and cloud infrastructure to secure service layers and polished, responsive UI components — and you can guide architectural decisions, not just implement them. You are experienced in building Backend for Frontend (BFF) patterns that aggregate multi-domain APIs into clean, efficient contracts tailored to the UI's needs.

You have a strong grasp of authentication and session-aware UI — designing and implementing role-based rendering, token handling, and post-login experiences that adapt to the user's profile and permissions. You understand the performance demands of a landing page — applying strategies such as lazy loading, caching, and web vitals optimization to ensure fast, reliable experiences across devices.

You are senior enough to mentor other engineers, drive technical design discussions, and push back constructively on approaches that won't scale, while remaining hands-on in the code. You understand cloud software delivery practices deeply and are technologically curious, staying current on emerging tools, patterns, and standards. Your communication and collaboration skills allow you to articulate solutions clearly to both engineers and stakeholders while maintaining a clear, unified experience for the end user.

In this role, you will:

Software Solutioning & Design (10%)

  • Develop deep understanding of the business processes and domains that the BAWP UI serves

  • Lead evaluation of feature requests, provide effort estimates, and drive sprint/technical planning

  • Define and own architectural patterns and API contracts for integrating multiple domain services into the BAWP UI

  • Lead peer code and design reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and scalability

Design, Architecture & Implementation (60%)

  • Architect and build scalable, secure full-stack solutions using React (TypeScript) on the front end and AWS-native services on the backend

  • Design and implement APIs and data integration layers that aggregate content from multiple upstream domains, with robust handling of latency, partial failures, and caching

  • Build reusable, well-architected front-end components and shared modules within the BAWP Shell (micro-frontend/Module Federation or equivalent)

  • Design and implement cloud-native architectures using AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, Step Functions, SQS/SNS, ECS, CloudWatch)

  • Apply and evolve architectural patterns, automation practices, and observability standards across the platform

  • Ensure systems meet enterprise requirements for scalability, data integrity, security, availability, and reliability

  • Integrate monitoring, telemetry, and operational readiness into all platform components

  • Own and evolve automated end-to-end and UI testing frameworks (Playwright) to ensure application quality and reliability

  • Drive performance optimization across API integration and rendering layers

Technical Contribution & Engineering Excellence (20%)

  • Solve complex technical problems and drive improvements to overall system design

  • Mentor and guide other engineers on best practices in development, testing, and system design

  • Continuously evaluate and introduce new cloud, front-end, and test automation technologies where they add value

  • Communicate technical approaches, tradeoffs, and architectural decisions clearly to engineering and business stakeholders

  • Champion best practices in secure system design, automation, performance, and resilient engineering

Team Operations & Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)

  • Partner with product, operations, security, and domain teams to deliver aligned, well-integrated solutions

  • Support platform readiness through leadership in testing, monitoring, and reliability efforts

  • Drive documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Collaborate with QA and engineering teams to embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines

  • Foster a culture of ownership, documentation, accountability, and continuous improvement
