We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to play a key role in the Finance team supporting the Cengage Academic US HED teams. Responsibilities include forecasting, reporting, and variance analysis for prepub investment; update and maintain key financial metrics; and financial and operational support in pursuit of strategic drivers of value.

The incumbent should have proven interpersonal skills with a track record of establishing collaborative business relationships with cross functional teams within an organization; the ability to manage and use large volumes of data within analyses along with using existing resources to problem solve; and have effective communication skills to work with all levels of management and staff.

This role will report to the VP, Financial Planning & Analysis

Where you'll work: This is a hybrid role for candidates who are located within commutable distance to either our Mason OH or Boston MA offices.

What you'll do here:

  • Performs monthly financial reporting tasks, quarterly forecasting and annual planning activities

  • Supports the product team by compiling financial information to provide guidance and oversight on product profitability, historical trends, and adoption analysis

  • Perform in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities for the Business Unit, providing actionable recommendations to leadership

  • Collaborate with BU leadership to understand key operational drivers and their impact on financial performance

  • Act as a liaison with Corporate FP&A and FP&A Center of Excellence, ensuring alignment on financial targets, forecasts, variance analysis, and reporting requirements

  • Reports and monitors actual and budget data with focus on key business performance drivers

  • Provides guidance with product set up and new copyright List support

  • Participates in ad-hoc reporting, initiatives and analysis

Skills you will need here:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Accounting/Finance, or Quantitative subject areas required

  • 3+ years related experience in financial reporting, planning, forecasting, analysis, and month-end close

  • Adapts well to fast-paced environment and constantly-evolving priorities and activities, and exhibits strong analytics and critical thinking skills

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required

  • Experience with PowerPivot, Tableau, Smartsheets, PowerBI and other data visualization tools a plus

  • Experience with financial reporting and planning software and general ledger systems (JD Edwards, Hyperion Essbase -Smartview, Oracle Data Warehouse)

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
