Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our Federal Remediation Practice in our San Antonio office.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and productively in a collaborative team-environment, foster team building through inclusion and mentorship, display a high level of organization and communication, have excellent technical writing and editing skills, and demonstrate a strong desire to learn from Project Managers. For the right candidate, this position holds significant growth potential.

  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge. 
  • Makes recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline. 
  • Makes recommendations on research requests, objectives, priorities, and timing. 
  • Assess need for change and recommends development of standards. 
  • Assess work against standards, objectives and specifications. 
  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies when working on unusually complex technical problems.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance. 
  • Develops solutions which are highly innovative. Assignments are often self-initiated. Acts as advisor to management and clients. Oversees the work of less experienced scientists.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or closely related field
  • 8+ years of experience in environmental consulting and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Department of the Air Force Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) policies and guidance including development of briefings for Air Force Senior Leaders
  • Experience with Air Force and Army Environmental Remediation programs including program and project management

  • Expertise in understanding and executing Air Force contracts (performance-based remediation, optimization services, environmental services)

  • Collaboration with federal and state regulators on Air Force Environmental Remediation Programs

  • Familiarity with Environmental Remediation for Army and Air Force Active, Guard and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) programs.

  • Expertise in leading teams in the development and publication of site characterization tools, and assessment capabilities.
