Job Description

  • Analyze existing processes, identify areas for automation, and design automation solutions using control systems, instrumentation devices, and software.
  • Create detailed design specifications, select appropriate equipment and technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Configure various types of instrumentation devices, such as sensors, transmitters, actuators, and control valves.
  • Ensure proper integration of these devices into the overall control system and verify accurate measurement and control.
  • Develop control logic, programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems to automate processes. This includes writing code, configuring HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens, and implementing data acquisition and analysis functionalities.
  • Conduct testing and commissioning activities to ensure the proper functioning of automation systems. This involves verifying control strategies, conducting functional tests, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with engineering teams to address any deficiencies.
  • Monitor the performance of automation systems, analyzing data, and diagnosing any malfunctions or anomalies.
  • Performing routine maintenance activities, such as equipment inspections, software updates, and calibration, to ensure system reliability and accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting/Issue Resolution and making changes utilizing site change management when required.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues related to automation systems, instrumentation devices, or software in a timely manner.
  • Employing troubleshooting techniques, diagnostic tools, and problem-solving skills to minimize downtime and optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate with process engineers and operations teams to identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvement, and cost reduction.
  • Apply automation and instrumentation expertise to optimize control strategies, fine-tune parameters, and implement performance enhancements.
  • Create detailed documentation, including technical specifications, operation manuals, maintenance procedures, and as-built drawings.
  • Generate reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and project progress to communicate findings and provide insights to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices related to process automation and instrumentation.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, participate in hazard assessments, and implement appropriate safety measures to mitigate risks.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and support off shift operations by being part of the on-call rotation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field and 8 years of experience in the job offered or in a Sr Engineer II, Automation- related occupation


Experience must include 8 years of experience with:

  • Demonstrated experience with controls systems and instrumentation including proficiency in designing and implementing control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with instrumentation devices, including sensors, actuators, and process measurement equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with automation software and tools: Rockwell and Siemens PLCs and HMIs, Aveva System platform/ Wonderware SCADA system, industrial communication protocols, and data historians.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate automation systems with other plant systems and enterprise-level software applications, including experience with data exchange protocols, database connectivity, and interfacing with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of industrial network architecture, including Ethernet, Profibus, or other relevant protocols.
  • Configuring network devices, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring secure communication within the automation infrastructure.
  • Optimizing processes and enhancing automation capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Infrastructure and IT Management: Windows Severs.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Development and Software engineering: Microsoft Visual Studio, .NET Framework, and Microsoft SQL Server tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Productivity and Collaboration tools: Office Suite, Teams, Sharepoint, and OnDrive.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMware's virtualization technology, including VMware ESXi, vSphere, and vCenter Server.
  • Deploying virtual machines, creating VM templates, configuring virtual hardware settings, installing and configuring the necessary operating systems and software.
  • Managing automation projects, including project planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues related to automated systems, including troubleshooting electrical, electronic, or software malfunctions.
  • Conducting preventive maintenance and calibration activities to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Creating detailed documentation, including functional specifications, user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and validation documentation.

The position also requires demonstrable experience with:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Working in a pharmaceutical environment including regulatory requirements associated with 21 CFR Part 11 and supporting validation of control system equipment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and adhering to documentation standards.
