Our Software Engineering teams are responsible for end-to-end development for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The MPD Core Media Manufacturing Software Engineer II (P2) position will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of Video-on-Demand (VOD) workflow orchestration.
Daily responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, integration, deployment, and support of a complex orchestration system.
  • Contribute to the planning of small to mid-size projects, requirements discovery, identification of task breakdowns, providing sizing estimates and helping with planning work allocation.
  • Participate in design and code reviews
  • Develop a highly functional understanding of Disney Streaming's VOD workflows, the orchestration system software components and how those components integrate with other systems.
  • Debug complex issues involving workflows across multiple systems in QA and production environments.
  • Apply Agile methodology and practices, including participation in regular scrums, sprint planning, and backlog grooming.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with the engineering manager, project manager, and other team members regarding the of projects and support issues
  • Participate in and help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and open communication with stakeholders across adjacent teams.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation to troubleshoot and resolve VOD workflow issues in Disney Streaming's production environment.


Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 3+ years (1+ with MS degree) software development industry experience.
  • Strong professional software development expertise, with a solid grounding in Scala and Java.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools (Github, Jenkins, Docker)
  • Experience with media encoding and streaming technologies and/or associated metadata workflows.
