The Senior Engineer position is a key contributor in the technology infrastructure and shared services of the following areas; virtual servers, endpoint hardware, Windows Operating Systems. This position is responsible for driving end-user experience through technology while maintaining the security and integrity of all digital workspaces, virtual servers and endpoints throughout the enterprise.
This position will be responsible for ensuring that infrastructure development and implementation meets CarMax quality expectations and requires an excellent team player that is highly qualified to lead projects and organize priorities across multiple initiatives.
What you will do – Essential Responsibilities
- Works closely with Leadership to continuously evolve architecture of systems and roadmap strategies
- Serves as a contributor applying computer system analysis during strategic and technical planning sessions resulting in the documentation, testing and modification of software and hardware computer systems
- Responsible for reviewing and mentoring the successful work of others in evaluating the business objectives, developing user requirements and generating technical specification for all applications and systems within their environment
- Maintain knowledge of current technologies and maintains an awareness for changes in technology and/or industry best practices
- Documents technical and platform requirements as well as provides a proposal of appropriate solution(s)
- Development and analysis of infrastructure systems and equipment designs for multiple large initiatives
- Evaluates and interprets complex system error logs, performance metrics, and other application or server output in order to identify problems in server performance or application execution
- Evaluate platform performance; recommend and deliver improvements to increase productivity and reduce cost
- Plan, coordinate and execute change management activities
Purpose of the role
The Senior Engineer, Platform Engineering is the driver of platform performance, infrastructure standards, quality expectations, support, technical implementations and all other aspects of their platforms environment. This position should act as a consultant to leadership, peers and end users to recommend end to end solutions that includes the system(s) integration of hardware and/or software.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related Technology field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of work experience
- Expertise in the following:
- Cloud architecture
- Server upgrades
- Server Antivirus technologies
- PowerShell Scripting and automation
- Strong knowledge with the following:
- Load Balancing methodologies
- Group Policy
- Active Directory
- Domain Name System
- DHCP
- Functional knowledge of physical and virtual servers, digital workspaces, computers and mobile devices but not limited to:
- Server (physical/virtual) operating systems
- Windows and MacOS operating systems
- Windows Server Update Services
- Ansible
- PowerShell
- Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Mgr (SCCM, Intune)
- Microsoft O365 Products
- Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) experience
Work Location and Arrangement: This role can be based out of the Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center or Dallas, TX Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
