Position OverviewJohnson & Johnson is seeking a highly capable Forward Deployed Engineer, Full Stack, Lead Engineer to work directly with business stakeholders, product teams, and engineering partners to design, build, deploy, and operationalize modern digital solutions in real-world enterprise environments.
This role will serve as a hands-on technical lead embedded close to users and product teams, translating ambiguous business problems into secure, scalable, and production-ready full stack solutions. The successful candidate will bridge product strategy, solution architecture, engineering execution, deployment, adoption, and operational support across Clinical Development, R&D, Medical Affairs, and enterprise technology capabilities.
The ideal candidate brings deep full stack engineering expertise, strong systems thinking, customer-facing problem solving, cloud-native delivery experience, DevSecOps discipline, and the ability to rapidly prototype, harden, and scale solutions within regulated enterprise technology environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesForward Deployed Engineering Leadership- Act as the technical lead for customer-embedded delivery efforts, owning solution discovery, design, build, deployment, and adoption from concept to production.
- Lead by influence across product managers, architects, engineers, data teams, AI teams, cybersecurity, quality, and business stakeholders.
- Translate complex and evolving business needs into actionable technical designs, prototypes, integration patterns, and delivery plans.
- Mentor engineers on solution design, secure coding, debugging, technical decision-making, and production-readiness practices.
- Design and build modern web applications, APIs, services, workflow tools, dashboards, portals, automation components, and integration layers.
- Rapidly prototype solutions with users, validate value, iterate based on feedback, and convert prototypes into maintainable production-grade applications.
- Own implementation across front-end, back-end, API, database, identity, integration, observability, and deployment layers.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, accessible, performant, compliant, and aligned with enterprise architecture and platform standards.
- Deploy and integrate solutions within complex enterprise environments, including legacy systems, cloud platforms, identity services, data platforms, and third-party applications.
- Apply cloud-native patterns, microservices, API-first design, event-driven integration, containerization, and managed services where appropriate.
- Troubleshoot production issues, resolve integration blockers, optimize performance, and address edge cases in live business workflows.
- Capture deployment learnings and convert them into reusable engineering patterns, product improvements, accelerators, and reference architectures.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, quality gates, security scans, infrastructure automation, and release management practices.
- Establish operational KPIs covering reliability, performance, deployment frequency, incident trends, and service health.
- Partner with cybersecurity, privacy, and quality teams to ensure secure software development lifecycle practices.
- Drive root cause analysis, technical debt reduction, application rationalization, and continuous platform improvement.
- Run discovery workshops, technical deep dives, and solution design sessions with business users, product owners, architects, and delivery teams.
- Communicate trade-offs, risks, technical options, and delivery progress clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Partner with product teams to convert field insights into backlog items, platform enhancements, roadmap inputs, and adoption strategies.
- Balance rapid delivery, business value, user adoption, security, compliance, quality, and long-term maintainability.
- Ensure applications comply with applicable enterprise security, privacy, quality, accessibility, and regulatory requirements.
- Support delivery practices aligned with GxP, Computer System Validation (CSV), GDPR, HIPAA, and internal J&J technology standards where applicable.
- Maintain audit-ready engineering documentation, traceability, and release evidence for regulated applications.
- Promote responsible use of data and AI-enabled capabilities within application experiences.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, full stack development, enterprise application delivery, solution engineering, or digital product engineering.
- 3+ years of experience as a technical lead, lead engineer, solution architect, forward deployed engineer, or senior hands-on engineering owner.
- Proven experience building and deploying production-grade full stack applications using modern front-end, back-end, API, database, and cloud technologies.
- Experience working directly with business users or customers to discover needs, design solutions, implement integrations, troubleshoot issues, and drive adoption.
- Experience with Agile delivery, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, release management, and production support practices.
- Experience in Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Life Sciences, or other regulated industries preferred.
