Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software for COMSEC systems

  • Collaborate closely with Electrical Circuit and FPGA Designers to ensure seamless hardware/software integration

  • Drive work across all phases of the software development lifecycle — from requirements and architecture through implementation, code review, verification, and deployment

  • Develop low-level drivers and firmware for embedded hardware platforms

  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and verification activities

  • Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, and documentation

  • Develop and execute software verification and validation plans, including unit, integration, and automated regression tests

  • Implement and maintain secure communications and cryptographic capabilities in compliance with applicable standards

  • 8+ years of experience in embedded software development

  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems

  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)

  • Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, and similar protocols

  • Experience working with FPGA interfaces and register-level hardware integration

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers

  • Understanding of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles as defined by NIST SP 800-207 and the DoD Zero Trust Reference Architecture

  • Experience developing and deploying Secure Boot and measured boot processes to ensure platform integrity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret security clearance

  • Experience in COMSEC, cryptographic systems, or secure communications

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and frameworks such as NIST SP 800-53 or RMF (Risk Management Framework)

  • Knowledge of High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptors (HAIPE) or similar secure communications equipment (e.g., TACLANE, KG-series)

  • Experience developing software interfaces for cryptographic hardware modules in compliance with FIPS 140-2/140-3 standards

  • Experience applying least privilege, micro-segmentation, and continuous verification principles within embedded or resource-constrained environments

  • Familiarity with identity-aware access controls and policy enforcement at the device and network layer

  • Knowledge of secure software development practices that align with Zero Trust frameworks, including continuous monitoring and validation of system components

  • Experience integrating embedded systems into broader Zero Trust security ecosystems, including coordination with network and cloud security teams

  • Experience implementing hardware-based Root of Trust (RoT) using technologies such as Trusted Platform Module (TPM), Hardware Security Modules (HSM), or Physically Unclonable Functions (PUF)
