As Sr. Electrical Engineer, Vehicle Power Distribution at Carbon Robotics, you will architect, design, test, and deliver the complete electrical power system for our diesel-electric tractor platform. You'll design high-voltage distribution networks, battery management systems, and safety interlocks that seamlessly integrate diesel generation with electric propulsion. From developing robust power architectures to validating performance in harsh farm environments, you'll do whatever it takes - which might include going to the farm - to ensure our customers have reliable and safe products.

What you'll do:

  • Design high-voltage (400-800V DC) and low-voltage (12/24V) power distribution architectures for diesel-electric platforms
  • Develop power management strategies to optimize energy flow between diesel generator and vehicle loads
  • Create electrical distribution systems including bus bars, contactors, fuses, and circuit protection for vehicle-scale power
  • Implement safety systems including ground fault detection, isolation monitoring, and emergency shutdown circuits
  • Integrate power distribution with vehicle CAN networks for real-time monitoring and diagnostics
  • Develop wiring harnesses rated for high-current automotive applications with proper shielding and routing
  • Validate power system performance under agricultural duty cycles including cold starts, peak loads, and regenerative events

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success:

  • 8-15 years experience designing vehicle power distribution systems for EVs, hybrids, or heavy, high voltage equipment
  • Expert proficiency in Capital Harness (or similar) for wiring design as well as analytical design optimization tools
  • Expertise in high-voltage DC systems design, isolation requirements, and safety standards (ECE R100, ISO 6469)
  • Proficiency in automotive wiring standards, connector systems, and harness design for high-power applications
  • Deep understanding of circuit protection devices (contactors, fuses, solid state power controls/relays, pre-charge circuits, pyro-fuses) for vehicle applications
  • Experience with thermal analysis and cooling system integration for power electronics
  • Knowledge of agricultural/automotive equipment requirements including IP67 sealing, thermal environments, vibration resistance, and EMC compliance
  • Familiarity with J1939 protocols and agricultural ISOBUS standards
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, component selection, and cost optimization
  • Desired proficiency with Altium Designer (v18+)
  • Willingness to travel ~10% of the time to support products in the production & field environments with a demonstrated ability to work directly with internal and external stakeholders/customers
  • BS+ in Electrical Engineering with focus on power systems, automotive engineering, or related field

What We Do

Carbon Robotics builds the industry-leading AI-powered LaserWeeder™ which combines computer vision, AI deep learning technology, robotics, and lasers to identify crops versus weeds - and shoots the weeds with lasers.

More than 100 of the world’s largest specialty crop growers have deployed LaserWeeders™ in North America, Europe, and Australia. This no-touch, precision technology is effective day and night in over 100 crops in both organic and conventional farming.

LaserWeeders™ are designed at Carbon Robotics headquarters in Seattle, Washington and manufactured in our state of the art new manufacturing facility in Richland, Washington. Carbon Robotics has raised $157 million in capital since 2018 from investors that include BOND, NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture capital arm), Anthos Capital, Fuse Venture Capital, Ignition Partners, Revolution, Sozo Ventures, and Voyager Capital.

What’s it like working at Carbon Robotics? We are a no-nonsense team of passionate people with a bias for action. We know that our ability to execute on our ideas is what sets us apart. We do what we say we are going to do, externally and internally. We trust our people to act independently and make practical, real-world decisions.

Why Work With Us

The Carbon Robotics LaserWeeder™ implement uses precision computer vision and sophisticated AI to kill weeds with millimeter accuracy. Laserweeding delivers consistency that puts growers back in control of their schedules amid labor shortages, chemical concerns, and rising costs. For high-density crops, laserweeding is the only automated solution.
