Job Summary: Seeking an experienced, self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to plan, implement and coordinate EHS programs, policies, and ensure regulatory compliance for the Garnet operations at the Coherent sites in Easton, PA and Hillsborough, NJ.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Assists in tracking and communicating Federal, State and Local regulations, identifies impacts to the site and develops and implements actions to comply within the published guidelines. Ensures implementation of requirements for Garnet operations.
Assists with conducting internal audits, root cause analysis, corrective action, closure and tracking.
Maintains safety files, records, databases and SDS/safe chemical management program.
Performs industrial hygiene sampling/analysis, ergonomic analysis & process safety risk assessments (including PHAs).
Assists with administration of workers' compensation program
Conducts EHS training as required or coordinates training programs conducted by others.
Member of the HAZMAT emergency response team (ERT) of Easton.
Lead Garnet operations ERT emergency exercises and facility wide drills
Maintain and improve the EHS Management System that drives performance including reduction of risks, injuries, spills, releases, compliance events, natural resource and cost efficiencies
Assists with EHS onboarding of new employees.
Identification of trends in incidents and near miss reports and ensures actions are completed in a timely manner.
Assists with continuous improvement in EHS activities, programs, behaviors and culture to reduce risk and meet company objectives.
Work on special EHS tasks as assigned.
Education & Experience
Four-year degree in Safety/Industrial/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, or other related Technical field preferred
Other education levels would be considered, but would be expected to have higher levels of education.
4+ years of EHS experience
Experience with Regulatory/Permitting Compliance (preferably in Pennsylvania and New Jersey)
Experience Conducting & Performing EHS Risk Assessments (JSAs, PHAs, etc.)
Experience Working in a Chemical or Manufacturing Environment

- Ability to anticipate and handle multiple priorities and complex/abstract issues involving external and internal priorities
- Ability to handle special assignments promptly and professionally
- Ability to actively participate in the Emergency Response Team (act as Incident Commander, as needed)
- Ability to work in teams and collaborate
- Comfortable working with, and around, hazardous chemicals and machinery
- Willingness to travel between the Easton, PA and Hillsborough, NJ sites as needed (up to 25%)
- Ability to work with employees and customers in a multi-cultural, global team environment
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, influence, planning and organizational skills
- Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at computer
The candidate shall have the ability to lift 50 pounds and move a 55-gallon drum and to work in an office setting
Safety Requirements
All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.
Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.
All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
