Job Description
 

We are seeking a Sr Director, Portfolio Strategy & Analytics. This role serves as a strategic partner working closely with Gilead Asset Teams (GATs), Development & Evidence Teams (DETs), and other cross-functional stakeholders to provide strategic analyses, portfolio insights, and decision support that enable effective planning and governance across the portfolio. The role contributes to the development and execution of portfolio processes, methodologies, and analytical approaches that support asset- and portfolio-level decision-making. This role works closely with leaders and functions, including Global Project Management, Therapeutic Area leadership, Finance, and the G.Ecosystem Office, to help ensure consistent, high-quality planning, options evaluation, and strategic decision support. This position represents PS&A on cross-functional teams, supports enterprise portfolio initiatives, and contributes to capability building, process improvement, and the evolution of portfolio analytics, tools, and ways of working.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the PS&A lead or representative for assigned assets, therapeutic areas, or portfolio initiatives.

  • Partner with GATs, DETs, and cross-functional leaders to frame strategic questions, evaluate options, assess risks and trade-offs, and support key decision points.

  • Deliver high-quality analyses, insights, forecasts, and recommendations that inform asset-level and portfolio-level decisions.

  • Provide strategic and analytical support for governance discussions, portfolio reviews, investment decisions, and lifecycle planning activities.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of PS&A processes, methodologies, and best practices, including lifecycle planning and options development and evaluation.

  • Ensure timely delivery of recurring and ad hoc analyses, presentations, and insights for leadership teams and governance forums.

  • Help assess asset-level opportunities within the broader context of portfolio strategy, priorities, constraints, and resource allocation.

  • Act as a strategic thought partner to functional and program leaders by providing objective analyses and recommendations to support complex decisions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve portfolio processes, analytical approaches, systems, tools, and reporting capabilities.

  • Support change management and implementation activities associated with new portfolio processes, tools, and planning methodologies.

  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, capability building, and continuous improvement efforts across PS&A and partner organizations.

  • Provide matrix leadership for complex cross-functional initiatives and project teams, driving alignment and execution without direct management responsibility.

Minimum Required Education and Years of Experience

Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience OR

Masters' Degree and Ten Years’ Experience OR

PhD and Eight Years’ Experience

Requirements

  • MA/MS/MBA with 10+ years of relevant experience or PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience in life sciences; BA/BS with 12+ years of relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 6 years of strategic portfolio analysis, planning, decision support, or related experience in life sciences.

  • Significant experience working on and influencing complex cross-functional drug development programs and portfolio initiatives.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic analyses and insights that inform asset-level and portfolio-level decisions.

  • Experience supporting portfolio processes, governance discussions, lifecycle planning, resource prioritization, or related areas.

  • Strong understanding of biopharma portfolio strategy, drug development, and commercialization.

  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and build alignment across functions, teams, and levels of leadership.

  • Experience supporting process improvement, change management, and the implementation of new ways of working.

  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to distill complex information into clear business recommendations and executive-level communications.

  • Demonstrated success working in highly matrixed environments and leading through influence.

  • Executive presence and ability to effectively engage senior leaders and governance forums.

The salary range for this position is: $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
