About the Senior Director of Compensation role:

  • This role is a key member of our People team, reporting to the Global People Operations Lead. 
  • In this role, you will be responsible for managing and evolving Material’s compensation programs in North America, EMEA and APAC. This is an exciting time to join the team as we embark on several foundational and strategic talent projects including revising our variable pay structures, simplifying our global job architecture, aligning our salary structures globally, expanding our adoption of Workday and elevating our use of analytics. 
  • This role requires a blend of compensation expertise, strong analytical skills and a highly consultative approach.  The Senior Director of Compensation owns strategy, prioritization, and execution of all compensation programs, balancing thought leadership with hands-on delivery. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Evolving Our Programs: 

  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our rewards programs, including salary, bonus and sales incentive plans: and lead initiatives to design and implement improvements, as necessary.
  • Revisit and enhance our job architecture as our business evolves. 
  • Advance the adoption of Workday and other technologies in support of our compensation programs. 
  • Lead data-driven decision-making and use analytics to support pay decisions. 
  • Further align our reward programs across our global business. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and competitive, equitable practices. 

Partnering Across Material 

  • Work directly with business leaders advising and building alignment on changes to our compensation programs.  
  • Provide coaching, education, and decision-support to our line managers and leaders.
  • Collaborate with our People Business Partners on specific employee issues and to ensure our compensation programs continue to retain and motivate top talent. 
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to benchmark positions and develop competitive total reward packages. 
  • Collaborate with our Benefits teams to deliver an integrated Total Rewards program 
  • Work closely with Finance on payroll, budget and financial impact. 

Managing Day-to-Day and Annual Activities: 

  • Own the design, governance, and ongoing execution of base pay programs, including hands-on analysis and implementation, ensuring our pay practices remain fair, transparent, and competitive. 
  • Develop communication materials and plans to ensure our pay practices and any changes are well understood and supported. 
  • Oversee the Material Bonus Plan, including plan design, tracking, forecasting and payout. 
  • Administer the compensation elements of our Sales Incentive Programs including Commission plans. 
  • Maintain and enhance the Material job architecture. 
  • Ensure compliance with reporting and legal requirements.  
  • Ensure our compensation data is accurate, available, and secure. 
  • Develop and share compensation analysis on a regular and ad-hoc basis. 

Qualifications:  

  • 7+ years’ compensation-focused experience preferably with exposure to both large, global organizations as well as mid-sized, growing businesses. 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience / education. 
  • Expertise in US pay policies, regulations and best practices. 
  • Exposure to international pay practices especially EMEA and India. 
  • Familiarity with the pay structures and challenges of a services-based business. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate compensation concepts, practices and procedures effectively at all levels of the organization. 
  • Experience developing clear and effective communication strategies regarding compensation programs and changes. 
  • Ability to exercise professional maturity and discretion when dealing with sensitive data; can handle confidential information discreetly.  
  • Strong analytical skills and a passion for data; Hands-on experience performing complex analysis and delivering compelling data-insights. 
  • Strong operational background with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions.

Pay Range: $145,000.00 – $180,000.00

The range shown represents a grouping of relevant ranges currently in use at Material. Actual range for this position may differ, depending on location and specific skillset required for the work itself.
