About the Role:

As a Sr. Database Architect supporting our Federal government client, you will be trusted with designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s database systems. This role involves ensuring the integrity, security, and availability of data while optimizing database performance and scalability to meet the organization’s needs.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

Database Design and Architecture:

  • Design and develop database structures, schemas, and models to support business applications and data management needs.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate database technologies and tools based on project requirements and organizational goals.
  • Create and maintain data architecture documentation, including data flow diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams, and data dictionaries.

Data Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce data security policies and procedures to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as GDPR, Privacy Act, and others.

Data Integration and Migration:

  • Design and implement data integration strategies to facilitate data sharing between systems and applications.
  • Oversee data migration projects, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime during transitions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate databases with applications and services.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with application developers, data analysts, and IT teams to understand data requirements and provide database solutions.
  • Communicate database architecture and design concepts to stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide training and support to team members on database best practices and tools.

Research and Development:

  • Stay current with emerging database technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Evaluate new database solutions and tools to enhance the organization’s data management capabilities.
  • Participate in the development of strategic plans for database technology and architecture.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database designs, configurations, and changes.
  • Prepare reports on database performance, usage statistics, and compliance status for management review.

Location:

This team is based in Washington, D.C., and the role operates in a hybrid work environment, with an expectation for candidates to work on-site multiple days on a weekly basis. Specific days in the office will be determined in coordination with the team. Flexible work arrangements available dependent on contract requirements for geographically dispersed staff.

Required Experience/Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of proven experience as a Database Architect or similar role, with expertise in database design, migration and management
  • Strong knowledge of database technologies (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and data modeling tools
  • Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Occasional availability for travel 
  • Prior DHS contractor fitness (suitability) authorization determination
  • Prior DHS experience
  • Must have at minimum, a current interim Secret, and the ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with SharePoint Online administration, including configuration, customization, and integration
  • Knowledge of Office 365 applications and their integration with SharePoint Online

Salary:

Approximate Salary Estimate: $90,000 - $110,000 annually
