We’re actively seeking a talented Sr Data Scientist to join our SMS Data Science team in Newport Beach, CA or Omaha, NE. Relocation assistance may be provided.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s underwriting transformation journey as we use machine learning and AI to modernize our underwriting workflow.

How you’ll help move us forward:

• Lead the development and implementation of data-driven models and algorithms to enhance the underwriting process.
• Use AI to process unstructured medical data and incorporate it into our models
• Automate processes using LLMs and agentic frameworks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, actuarial, and technology, to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
• Analyze large and complex datasets to extract actionable insights and support decision-making.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in data science and machine learning.
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists and analysts.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders through clear and concise reports and presentations.

The experience you bring:

• Bachelor's, Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
• 8 + years experience working in Technology with focus on Data Science initiatives
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
• Experience using LLMs to build agentic workflows
• Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
