Your Impact
The Lowe's Legal Department is an innovative, proactive, and strategic business partner focused on accelerating profitable growth while protecting the Lowe's brand. The Senior Counsel, Litigation will serve as a key member of the litigation team, helping manage a broad and complex portfolio of disputes across the enterprise. This role is ideal for an experienced litigator who can work independently, think strategically, and engage hands-on in the day-to-day management of litigation matters. The successful candidate will be a practical, business-oriented lawyer who can partner effectively with internal stakeholders, manage outside counsel, and drive strong outcomes for Lowe's.
What You Will Do
- Independently manage a wide range of litigation and pre-litigation matters across the enterprise, including commercial disputes, personal injury, premises liability, product liability, and intellectual property matters.
- Develop and help execute litigation strategy in partnership with legal leadership, business stakeholders, and outside counsel.
- Actively manage cases through all phases, including early case assessment, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, deposition preparation, hearings, mediations and settlement conferences, and trial preparation.
- Review and edit key litigation materials, including pleadings, briefs, discovery responses, and other case filings.
- Provide practical, business-focused advice to internal clients regarding legal risk, likely outcomes, and resolution strategy.
- Manage outside counsel, including staffing, budgets, case strategy, and performance.
- Partner with internal teams to gather facts, develop case themes, prepare witnesses, and align litigation strategy with Lowe's broader business interests.
- Identify legal and operational risks across litigation matters and provide proactive recommendations to protect the company and improve outcomes.
- Track trends across the litigation docket and advise legal and business leaders on emerging risks and opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
- 9+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
- Significant experience managing a broad, high-volume, high-exposure litigation docket, including meaningful experience in several of the following areas: commercial disputes, personal injury, premises liability, product liability, and intellectual property litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage matters independently and exercise strong legal and business judgment.
- Experience managing outside counsel and collaborating with internal business stakeholders.
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with intellectual property litigation, especially patent litigation.
- Experience in both state and federal court matters.
