Job DescriptionVisa is seeking an intellectual property (IP) attorney with significant experience in technology transactions and IP diligence in M&A to join its growing legal team that supports Visa’s product and technology organizations. This role will report to a Vice President in Visa Legal who leads the Global IP function.
The role includes responsibility for supporting Visa’s mergers and acquisitions and ventures investment activity from an IP point of view, and advising both attorney colleagues and internal clients across Visa’s business on a number of IP related issues in commercial deals and IP/technology transactions. This attorney will also work closely with other experienced lawyers and legal/IP professionals, and regularly engage with business clients to understand and achieve key business objectives. An ideal candidate will be comfortable negotiating a variety of IP terms which preserve Visa’s proprietary rights while mitigating IP risk and ensuring freedom to operate.
Applicants must be skilled at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging, but highly rewarding, environment, have good judgment and strong analytical, client counseling, and negotiation skills, be self-motivated, and, most importantly, be an optimistic, curious, and collaborative team player.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications
• Juris Doctor degree with 8 or more years of experience as in-house or outside counsel advising technology and software companies in the following areas: mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, technology transactions, payments, and software licensing
• Admission to at least one state bar in good standing and able to register as in-house counsel as required.

• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as needed, and engage directly with business clients at all levels
• Must be a practical and creative problem-solver with strong business acumen, communication skills, and work ethic
• Must have excellent judgment and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Must have experience in the drafting and negotiation of complex technology transactions agreements
• Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and experience with open source software licensing issues and standards setting organizations are a plus.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 219,200.00 to 317,850.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
