The Senior Cost Accountant is a high-visibility role that will serve as an important partner between Accounting, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and FP&A. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role will help support and strengthen Pivot Bio’s cost accounting and inventory processes as the company continues to scale. The ideal candidate is analytical, hands-on, curious, and eager to develop a deep understanding of the business and its manufacturing operations.


Essential functions

  • Prepare and communicate analysis of manufacturing performance and key metrics, including spending and absorption, purchase price variance, work orders, inventory-driven costs, and other cost accounting analyses as needed.
  • Develop a strong understanding of costing data, including labor, materials, overhead, and standard costing across multiple locations.
  • Participate in the month-end close process, including inventory balance and activity tie-outs, reconciliations, and resolution of identified issues.
  • Prepare journal entries for reclasses, accruals, and adjustments related to inventory and COGS.
  • Perform monthly inventory and cost accounting balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
  • Support SOX control activities related to cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Participate in process, systems, and reporting improvements within the cost accounting function, including supporting the design, testing, and implementation of cost accounting processes in a new ERP environment.
  • Participate in annual physical inventory counts and assist with reviewing inventory adjustments and identifying root causes.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, FP&A, and Accounting teams to support accurate and timely inventory and cost accounting processes.
  • Support internal and external audit requests, including preparation of PBC materials.
  • Provide backup support for accounting and operational activities as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and controls and work with appropriate stakeholders to implement improvements.

 

Competencies

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and related financial and accounting activities.
  • Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, and inventory valuation preferred.
  • Hands-on; willingness to become involved in the details of the operations to ensure accurate information is provided to the business partners.

This role resides in Minnetonka, MN, but can be remote for the right candidate.

 

Physical demands CREATE STANDARD LANGUAGE OPTIONS

This position is primarily sedentary and requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. The role may occasionally require standing, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying light office materials. Travel required

This role may require overnight travel approximately once a quarter.

 

Required education and experience

  • 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, with experience in cost accounting, inventory, or a manufacturing environment preferred. Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow and inventory valuation.
  • CMA/CPA certification is a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • Experience working NetSuite.
  • Experience in working for a public company is desired.
  • Experience in working in agricultural environment is strongly preferred.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
