Introduction to the Job

At ASML, our technology enables the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers to produce smaller, faster, and more powerful chips. As a Senior Production Engineer, you will play a critical role in strengthening manufacturing performance, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement across factory operations.

As a Senior Contamination Control Engineer at ASML, you will help protect the cleanliness and precision required to manufacture some of the world’s most advanced semiconductor equipment. You will develop and improve contamination control processes that reduce particle and molecular contamination across a highly complex manufacturing environment.

In this senior engineering role, you will combine hands-on technical problem solving with process development, data analysis, and continuous improvement. Your work will support manufacturing performance, new product introductions, equipment readiness, and the long-term reliability of production processes.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Senior Contamination Control Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert for contamination control and cleaning processes. You will partner with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and quality teams to solve complex problems and implement sustainable improvements.

  • Own and improve particle and molecular contamination testing methods, equipment procedures, recipes, maintenance requirements, and supporting processes.
  • Lead complex investigations involving contamination, cleaning, process deviations, and manufacturing issues using structured root cause and problem-solving methods.
  • Develop structural improvements that increase productivity, efficiency, first-pass yield, and overall process capability while reducing contamination-related defects.
  • Lead technical initiatives involving new product introductions, equipment investments, capacity planning, continuous improvement, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Monitor and analyze performance using key performance indicators, statistical process control, Pareto analysis, control charts, and other data-driven quality methods.
  • Develop and qualify contamination control processes for new manufacturing equipment, including installation, calibration, documentation, and process validation.
  • Mentor engineers and collaborate across teams by sharing contamination control expertise, supporting technical reviews, and promoting consistent problem-solving practices.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Five or more years of experience in production engineering, process development, manufacturing engineering, or a related environment involving cleaning and contamination control.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning processes and equipment used for particle and molecular contamination detection, measurement, and analysis.
  • Three or more years of experience leading continuous improvement initiatives. Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Three or more years of experience leading technical projects or cross-functional initiatives. Project management certification is a plus.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, high-tech manufacturing, complex assembly, or cleanroom environments is preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing execution systems, enterprise resource planning systems, engineering change processes, or product lifecycle management is preferred.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Apply analytical thinking to identify contamination sources, evaluate data, and determine effective corrective actions.
  • Solve complex manufacturing problems using structured root cause analysis and data-driven problem-solving methods.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and quality teams.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical partners and business stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Use statistical and quality methods such as statistical process control, Pareto analysis, histograms, control charts, and process mapping.
  • Take initiative and ownership when addressing technical challenges and improving manufacturing processes.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues while promoting knowledge sharing and technical development across the team.
