Job Summary

Church & Dwight is seeking a Senior Consumer Scientist to join our team. This role serves as the voice of the consumer, owning agile research solutions that uncover insights to enhance the overall consumer experience. The Senior Consumer Scientist leads product and consumer research across designated categories to guide product development and Innovation R&D.

About the Role

The Senior Consumer Scientist partners with R&D teams to define project objectives and action standards for product research. This role provides recommendations and direction based on test findings and designs integrative research plans using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

The Senior Consumer Scientist develops strategic research initiatives for holistic consumer and product understanding, manages vendor selection and methodology design, and interprets data to provide actionable insights. This role partners with the Marketing Research Division (MRD) to create integrated test plans and educates internal partners on the value of consumer experience.

Work Environment

Hybrid: The role will be based in Princeton, NJ and requires in-person attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with remote work options on Mondays and Fridays.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Lead and collaborate with R&D partners to define project objectives and action standards for product research.

  • Provide recommendations and direction based on test findings.

  • Design integrative research plans using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

  • Develop strategic research initiatives for holistic consumer and product understanding.

  • Manage vendor selection, methodology design, and data interpretation.

  • Partner with Marketing Research Division (MRD) to create integrated test plans.

  • Educate internal partners on the value of consumer experience.

  • Socialize value-based test designs across the organization.

  • Identify consumer needs and understand product usage.

  • Support Innovation R&D through consumer and product research initiatives.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while delivering actionable consumer insights.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications:


  • BS, MS, or PhD in Social Sciences or related field.

  • 5+ years in a consumer insights role.

  • Experience with consumer and product research methodologies.

  • Experience designing and executing qualitative and quantitative research.

  • Ability to identify consumer needs and understand product usage.

  • Big-picture mindset with cross-project insight capability.

  • Agile thinker with test-and-learn approach.

  • Strong verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Skilled in data analysis and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fragrance or flavor sensory testing is a plus.

  • Comfortable with DIY data platforms.

  • Familiarity with advanced statistical methods is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $92,500–$131,700. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
