What You Will Do at Ciena:
As a Software Developer, you will contribute to the development of advanced network design and engineering applications for Real-Time Network Planning on Ciena's innovative Navigator Apps platform. Your work will empower customers to design and deploy SONET/SDH, OTN, and Optical DWDM networks using Ciena’s market-leading optical products and technologies.
You will collaborate closely with a global team of Optical System Engineers, Product Managers, and Software Designers to deliver high-quality software solutions that enhance Ciena’s networking capabilities. Your contributions will support transport, switching, and packet hardware deployments across long-haul, regional, and metro networks.
Key Responsibilities:Software Design & Development:
- Design, develop, and validate Layer 0 Optical networks, ensuring performance and memory efficiency.
- Create software solutions for client-server, desktop-based, and microservice-based environments.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Line Managers (PLMs), and Verification teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex software issues promptly.
- Translate functional requirements into development tasks and provide accurate project time estimates.
Testing & Optimization:
- Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and support verification teams in resolving feature defects.
- Optimize software performance, considering resource limitations and scalability.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies to drive best practices.
Innovation & Problem-Solving:
- Analyze and enhance existing products through UX audits and issue resolution.
- Find creative and efficient solutions to complex problems, enhancing software usability and performance.
- Research emerging technologies to propose innovative solutions and improve development processes.
What We Are Looking For:Must-Have Skills & Qualifications:
- Programming Languages:
- C++ (Version 11+ preferred) – Strong understanding of OOPS concepts, Data Structure, Algorithm
- Software Development Experience:
- Full software development lifecycle (requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and support)
- Familiarity with REST APIs, Web Services, SOAP
- Experience with JSON, XML, and database design (Cassandra, AWS S3)
- Unit testing experience with frameworks like GoogleTest or NUnit
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a global, cross-functional team
- Adaptability and eagerness to learn new technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Network Planning Software/EMS/NMS.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Prior experience in network design or telecommunications is a plus.
